"Messiah CompleX, Part 5"
by Mike Carey and Chris Bachalo
Part of the Messiah CompleX X-Over

Synopsis & Review by DarkPhoenix89:
Synopsis: 80 Years in the future…
Jamie and Layla are wondering how to get into the Mutant Internment camp and still be able to get out with becoming trapped themselves. They also need to know about what caused this race war. The records in that library had been filleted. Someone had edited everything they needed. Almost as if they knew they were coming. Jamie then wonders how everyone else is doing and Layla says it doesn’t matter now cause it’s all ancient history.

Antarctica…
Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Angel and Wolverine are surrounded by Mr. Sinisters forces. Sinister says his forces could kill all 5 of them single-handed and asks how they intend to prevail. Angel asks him to read his mind and find out. Sinister does so and finds he can’t. Storm tells him he miscounted; there are 6 of them. Emma Frost is shielding them psychically and attacks Sinister while the rest battle Sinisters forces.

Outside the Xavier Institute…
Slayton is complaining about how boring his job is. Lex says to keep his mind on the job.

Inside…
Bishop has just arrived and tells Scott he should have waited before he attacked the Marauders. Scott points out that a private war was fought over this baby and he has to know why. They don’t have the luxury to wait. If he wanted to be on the team, he should have got there sooner. Bishops says he was busy getting info and presumes Emma is doing the same. Scott explains she isn’t. She is with the assault team, she is psychically linked to the team. Sinister has always been able to shield against psychic attacks so he thought it was a good idea worth stealing.

Antarctica…
Wolverine tells Storm to take out Scrambler and she also takes out Vertigo as well. Kurt teleports Exodus far away and Colossus takes on Malice, Arclight and Cargill at the same time. Wolverine grabs Scalphunters arm and directs it towards Random and Tempo.

Angel confronts Sinister and tells him to give him the child or people are going to die. Sinister says his feeble misdirections don’t impress or interest him. Yes, people are going to die. He has his word. Not far away, Wolverine sneaks up on Gambit and asks to talk.

Purifier Base, Washington D.C…
Deathstrike says that all good children should be tucked away in their beds. She then orders her Reavers to be severe with them. Laura tells them to keep away from Hellion and slashes a Reaver in half. The rest of the New X-Men and Rictor join in and Santo tells Pixie to get them out of there. Pixie says she can’t and everyone around gets taken down. Suddenly Rictor and Anole show up by her side, Anole tells her to focus and shut out everything else and Rictor tells her that if she doesn’t, all her friends are going to die. Pixie concentrates and begins to say a spell. Suddenly the New X-Men and Rictor glow pink and disappear. Unfortunately the teleport goes wrong and it spreads them all out between Washington and the Institute. Pixie, badly injured screams in pain and Emma Frost picks it up back at the Institute.

The Xavier Institute…
Emma tells Scott what happened and that the Purifiers don’t have the baby. Iceman wants to know where they are and Emma informs him they are spread out between Washington and the Institute. Iceman says he will go get them and Emma says she also has some bad news. Because of Pixie, she has lost contact with the assault team and can’t get back to them. Sinister is blocking her out.

Antarctica…
Gambit is throwing everything he has go at Wolverine but Wolverine says he is going to keep coming until he gets the kid. Gambit has no idea what Wolverine is talking about when Wolverine stabs him in the chest. Gambit falls to the floor and asks Remy again where the girl is.

Not far away, Sinister takes down Angel and with the help of help of some of his forces, Colossus. Storm tells Kurt to find Wolverine now but he hesitates. She tell him to go an as soon as he does, she fires a powerful lightning bolt on most of Sinister's forces.

Wolverine is wondering the base when Malice throws Angel’s body at him. Wolverine checks to see if he is ok when he turns into an unconscious Scrambler. Malice fires an energy blast at Logan, seriously injuring Logan. Regan appears along side Malice who is about to finish the job when Kurt teleports in and knocks them out. Logan tries to tell him Sinister doesn’t have the baby when Kurt is shot by Scalphunter. Kurt teleports them out but is seriously injured. Logan is able to contact Emma and he informs her that an X-Man has the baby.

The Xavier Institute…
Lex asks if he could clock off early but Slayton says no. Suddenly something happens to Slayton and metal oozes from his pours. He wonders what is happening when it covers his whole body. He screams for Lex to help but it’s too late as it has happened to him as well and he is hooked up to the sentinel.

Inside…
Scott says it makes no sense and wonders why he didn’t share info. He tells Emma to contect Storm and to tell her to pull out. Emma reminds him she can’t get to Storm when the sentinels attack the mansion and try to destroy the X-Men.

Elsewhere…
Cable is running through the snow when he stops at a cliff to watch the sun rise with the baby. One minute before dawn, kid. We’re doing fine.

Review: Chris Bachalo draws the best Pixie ever. She looks so cute and like an actual pixie. The art’s pretty good but it can be a bit hard to tell what is going on in some of the scenes. The story is moving along nicely and we finally learn where the baby is.

Review by Specter313: Interesting to see that it’s Cable who has the baby, but not a complete surprise. He seemed to know about something going down at the time of his supposed “death” back on Providence, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see if he had some kind of plan in conjunction with all this. What’s interesting is how that one phrase seemed to be his big clue about it all, and it was Gambit who originally told him. Could they somehow be working together in all this? Will be something to look out for, that’s for sure.

The action was interesting with the ideas, but again, Bachalo is not the artist to correctly portray it. I liked the cleverness of disguising Scrambler to take out Wolverine, and it showed how good of a leader Storm can be as well. Also, the Sentinels finally attack the X-Men, and all I can really say is it’s about time. They’ve been nothing but window dressing since they’ve arrived and hopefully this will just get rid of them altogether.
