Whoa. Tough issue to read, much less write about. First off, let me say that this issue was really very good, both because of the tragic aspects of the story and for the rest of it as well. The one thing that could have been better was the art, which was half Yu and half others. Thankfully Yu did the important parts, and his style really added to the drama. The main foci of the issue was trying to get Moira home in time to get her cure for the Legacy Virus to someone and Cable in his job protecting Senator Kelly. Some really great scene occurred with the latter, especially when Cable meets the Senator at Sharon Kelly's grave. They really made a connection (as they are both widowers, and Kelly was impressed by Cable's dedication to the X-Men's dream), and Kelly's intelligence was very apparent, as he quickly picked up on the fact that Cable must be from the future. When Kelly asked Cable to show him the man behind the disguise, I really got a warm and fuzzy feeling inside. I actually thought that this story might have a happy ending. Of course, I was wrong. Another thing I liked was the determination, primarily on Moira's part, to survive and get the Legacy Cure to safety. The portrayal of a dying woman who by force of will alone pushes herself to stay alive just a few moments more (supported by friends who will try almost anything to save her) was really very touching. Moira is the true hero of this piece. I was a bit surprised that she never mentioned Sean this whole issue, but turning to Charles at the end made complete sense, given his telepathy. The final scenes between them, though no dialogue occurred on their part, did a good job of making the emotions between two first loves clear to me. Even Charles's concern for Jean, not wanting to put her in a position similar to the one that put her into a catatonic state for months felt right. Unfortunately, while the cure was transferred, Moira passes on, and even worse, Cable, who is called on to add TP power to Jean, is unable to stop Kelly's murder at (ironically) an anti-mutant human who is upset at Kelly for changing his tune. The last page is just gorgeous. It should be a poster. Aside from the main plot, I also enjoyed the short scene where Logan attempts to kill the unconscious Mystique, but Rahne stops him, not to save Raven's life, but so she could kill her later. Actually a very good character piece. In the old days, Logan wouldn't even have hesitated and Raven would be dead. He has matured in a lot of ways over the years, and it's good to see. Rahne is more interesting, though. She will probably have some severe trauma from this whole episode, losing both her foster-mother and her own abilities. I hope we see what happens to her, and some of her dealing with the loss of her enhanced senses (unlike Psylocke, who has never shown any problem with now being head-blind, unlike other TPs who have lost their abilities). Now for some questions: When did Rogue absorb Cecilia (allowing her to have surgical skills)? Why didn't Wolverine mention the fact that his healing factor WAS used successfully to restore Siryn's voice? Why didn't Cable stop the bullets that killed Kelly with his TK? Why is Claremont leaving when this was obviously some of his best work? You figure it out.
