X-Man #3
Synopsis by Jeff Harris:
Faced by Domino, Grizzly and Caliban, Essex sneaks out the back while Forge uses a flash grenade to escape once he's learned of their search for Nate. He sends a telepathic message to him to stay away, but of course he doesn't listen and comes barreling back out of the woods with Theresa. Meanwhile, Forge gets Mastermind to pose as the telepath, and he assaults Domino with an illusion of Apocalypse. She sees through it easily, and wastes Jason with one shot from her gun. She's about to do the same to Forge when Nate flies in, attacking the assassin with no holds barred. She proves to be more than his match when it comes to hand-to-hand combat. On the other side of the battlefield, Toad is in a swordfight with Caliban which he wins, but he is subsequently murdered gruesomely by Grizzly. Sonique uses her powers to momentarily stun him, and Forge delivers the killing blow. While Domino is distracted, Nate uses that opportunity to attack her psychically, peeling back the layers of her mind and leaving her a mindless husk. Forge and Nate embrace, reconciling their differences, and Forge goes back to find Essex, only to discover the dead body of Brute. He realizes that Essex has been playing them all for a fool, but it's too late. By the time Nate arrives, Forge has already been mutilated and is soon gone, his dying words a request for the boy to find Magneto. Grieving and furious, Nate blows away Essex's disguise, leaving his true form: Apocalypse's defected horseman, Sinister!
