Cerebra's Files
X-Cutioner
Real Name: Carl Denti
Affiliation: None
Powers: None (human). Carl Denti was an agent at the F.B.I. who came into
possession of the late Fred Duncan's files on the X-Men and other mutants, as well as some aliens that they
had encountered. Duncan had been Xavier's contact at the Bureau, and had kept detailed accounts
of their dealings. He had also stockpiled weapons and other technology from the
defeated foes of the X-Men. Seeing the harm that mutants could cause, Denti took
the info and the tech and became the X-Cutioner. His mission was to kill those
mutants that have killed others first. He would, however, kill or hurt anyone
who gets in his way. He killed Tower, went after Mastermind
on Muir Island, where he encountered the X-Men
and gave Colossus the head wound that precipitated
his joining the Acolytes, and tried to kill Emma Frost but was stopped by Cable and Cyclops. He also attempted
to kill Skin for the murder of Angelo Espinosa (not knowing
that Ange had faked his death), and got into a big fight with Rogue
and X-Man. Denti's father was an army officer who was shot by
his own lieutenant for killed officers who refused to follow an illegal order,
a fact which haunted X-Cutioner during his crusade. X-Cutioner's weapons included
Z'nox sensors, Sentinel propulsion units, Shi'ar
body armor, a force field, a teleportation unit and various weapons from various
races and groups. X was working as a liason to an archaeological dig from which
Gambit stole some artifacts. This caused some of the
security guards on the project to lose their jobs. Feeling responsible for his
failure and theirs, X-Cutioner took them in, outfitted them with advanced technology,
and set out to capture Gambit. They first nabbed Rogue and used her to lure Remy
through a Stargate to an abandoned asteroid. X-Cutioner fought Gambit, but misjudged
his foe, who managed to grab X's Z'nox lance and blast him. Temporarily blinded,
X thought that his allies, who were coming to help him, were actually Rogue and
Gambit, coming to unmask him, so he fired on them and killed them. X-Cutioner
realized what he had done and admitted that his whole crusade was a lie only seconds
before the asteroid exploded. The blast would have taken him into oblivion but
for an automatic teleportation unit in the armor that deposited Denti back on
Earth, sans gear. Denti then found himself in the ironic position of protecting
Gambit from assassins. When he offered Gambit an escape in his car, and spent
a little time with him, Carl realized that Gambit wasn't so bad after all. Unfortunately,
at the same time he ran into another X-Cutioner, with similar armor and weapons.
Denti has no clue who this new X-Cutioner is, or how and why he has adopted his
former identity.
