Wisdom, Pete

Full Name: Peter Wisdom
Affiliation: "New" Excalibur (III), MI-13 (British Secret Service)
Previous Affiliations: X-Force, Excalibur (I), Black Air
Status: "Married" (Tink)
Relatives: Harry (father), Mother (deceased), Romany (sister), Tink (Wife? Bondmate?), Oberon (father-in-law?)
Powers: A former Black Air operative, Pete projects sharp, white-hot shards of heat from his fingertips. He doesn't have much else going for him but the fact that he was Kitty's boyfriend. Pete left Black Air while teamed up with Excalibur on a mission to Genosha. He had had enough of the dirty deeds the constantly ordered him to perpetrate "On Her Majesty's Secret Service." He joined the Excalibur team, and was invaluable in helping them infiltrate Black Air bases. Wisdom also has a grudge against Scratch, a particluarly nasty agent whose face wisdom scratched off years before. On the first such infiltration, Wisdom became romanticaly involved with Kitty Pryde. Their relationship lasted through a beating by Colossus, who freaked when he arrived on Muir Island and saw Pete kissing "his Katya," through the defeat of the London Hellfire Club and Black Air, and until Kitty was called into the service of S.H.I.E.L.D.. On the Helicarrier she had met someone her own age, and realized that her relationship with Wisdom had no real foundation. Pete didn't take the breakup well, and left Excalibur without a word. He didn't even show up at Meggan's wedding.

Soon, however, Pete pulled himself together and joined with some other ex-spies to try and clean up some of the messes they had made while working the black ops side of things. Shortly afterward, he convinced Cannonball (and X-Force) to accompany him to Genosha to retrieve a CPU from a satellite that had crashed on the African island. The CPU truned out to be the disembodied brain of Archie Fogg, a friend of Wisdom's, with the ability to remotely link to and control any sort of machinery. The rescue team ran into Magneto, who beat Wisdom up pretty badly, but through some sneaky tactics by Sam, managed to get off the island and download Archie into an android body. At that point in time, Pete wore an eyepatch claiming that he lost his left eye on a mission to Russia to disarm a nuke from the Reagan era. Later the patch was revealed to be a ploy to get girls.

Some time later, Wisdom was asked by Sam and Jesse Bedlam to come work with X-Force again in an advisory role, mentoring them in the uses of their powers and in subterfuge and the ways of the intel community. Wisdom was actually quite successful in this role, teaching Warpath to fly and Meltdown to project energy spikes instead of time bombs. He also had them change their identities and hair colors in order to deal with old menaces left over from the Cold War. Unfortunately, on a mission to shut down a bio-mutating device in San Francisco, Wisdom's control center was infiltrated by Dr. Roman, the mastermind behind the device, and Pete was shot and apparently killed. Months later, though, Pete reappeared to secretly debrief Domino after the remainder of X-Force was supposedly killed destroying his sister Romany's alien technology program. Pete didn't believe they were dead, though, and (aside from Bedlam, who has yet to reappear) he was right.

Later, Pete became an agent of M-13, the ministry that incorporated the W.H.O. (Weird Happenings Organization). He worked mostly alone, but for certain missions led a team of agents (a Skrull, a psychic, an expatriate fairy and Captain Midlands) on various missions to protect England. On one such mission, Pete agreed to mate with Tink, his fairy teammate, to prevent a war between fairies and humans. This effectively was a political marriage, but Pete doesn't seem to be taking his vows completely seriously.

Wisdom was a retainer to King Brian Braddock of England, a vassal of the House of M. Intensely loyal, he nearly attacked Betsy Braddock when she tried to stop her brother from killing Courtney Ross, whom he believed to be Sat-Yr-9 (839). When Brian and his Queen were accosted by Omega Sentinel Karima Shapandar, Wisdom defended his king, but may have paid a heavy price for his efforts.

Following M-Day, he asked some of his former Excalibur mates to come to England to investigate Dazzler's murder. Nightcrawler, Shadowcat and Marvel Girl III arrived, with Juggernaut and Nocturne as well. Captain Britain also showed up, and they saved Alison from permanent death. Discovering an evil team of doppelganger X-Men were responsible, Wisdom eventually prevailed upon Captain Britain, Dazzler, Juggernaut and Nocturne to re-form Excalibur to help British mutants. Though his department paid for Excalibur's expenses, making Pete believe he was in charge, the team tended to defer to Captain Britain, causing quite a bit of tension. In addition, Pete fancies Sage, who's not interested. Interestingly, on a trip back in time to Camelot, Pete tried to hit on Guinevere, and may have driven her into the arms of Lancelot, which eventually led to Arthur's downfall!
