Old Codenames: Warbird, pronounced wôr'bûrd [Old French werre "battle, war" + Old English brid "young bird"]; Binary, pronounced bīnĕrē [From Late Latin binarius, from bini "two-by-two," from bis "double"]; Of two parts, as are most star systems in the galaxy.

Powers & History: At the start of her career, Carol was a government operative, in which capacity she met and befriended Logan. Afterwards, she began working in Cape Canaveral as Chief of Security. She then met Captain Marvel, the Kree superhero, and got caught in the crossfire of a battle between him and Colonel Yon-Rogg, another Kree. Carol was accidentally irriadiated by the Psyche-Magnetron, which altered her DNA to become partly Kree, and also granted her fantastic powers. As "Ms. Marvel," she possessed super-strength, invulnerability, flight and a precognitive 7th sense, plus the ability to fly unprotected in space. These powers (and her entire persona) were transferred to Rogue during their epic battle in Avengers Annual #10.

As Binary, she channelled all forms of energy, courtesy of a white hole that powers her. She could survive unprotected in space and could fly. Warbird was the name adopted by Carol Danvers upon her return to the Avengers, prompted by the sudden decrease of her "Binary" powers. Carol retained a toned-down version of the Binary energy powers, but the loss of her full capabilities drove her to drink heavily. As a result, she was unable to make rational decisions during battles and was removed from active duty. However, after some therapy and working with Iron Man, Carol was returned to full status in the Avengers.

Recently, Warbird assisted Captain America and Wolverine as they tracked down the rogue SHIELD group "The Contingency" and recovered a stolen Shi'ar artifact. She was also promoted to a directorship in the Department of Homeland Security, where she helped oversee operations involving the new X-Treme Sanctions Executive (X.S.E.)

Following the dissolution of the Avengers, Warbird changed her codename back to Ms. Marvel, and also became the effective parole officer of Abe Jenkins (Mach IV/Beetle), a member of the Thunderbolts. In that capacity she helped the T-Bolts fend off a HYDRA attack on New York City.

In the House of M reality, Carol was known as Captain Marvel and was one of the few non-mutant super-humans who were accepted and celebrated by the masses. She even had her own arch-nemesis, a powerful sorcerer named Sir Warren Traveler, and a publicist named Sarah Day. Rumor had her in a relationship with Wonder Man, but nothing either admitted. Operating out of New York, she foiled a robbery by Gambit and some humans, but was soon "woken up" to the true reality by Layla Miller. Carol then helped the heroes attack Genosha in an attempt to free the world from Magneto's rule and restore history.

Following M-Day, Carol was one of the few people who remembered the reality warp, and she determined to prove her worth as a true hero, something she had experienced during the House of M. She told this to Captain America when he offered her membership in the new Avengers team, but she declined, feeling unready to join that august assemblage. Cap assured her that a place would always be available to her in the Avengers. She has retained most of her energy-wielding abilities, but has also gained back her increased strength and durability.

While Ms. Marvel assisted the Avengers against the mutant Collective, who absorbed the energies left by M-Day, she absorbed a massive amount of energy and briefly returned to her red-skinned, flame-haired "Binary" look for the duration of the battle. Afterwards, she did not join the Avengers officially, and then when the Superhuman Registration Act passed, she registered and was recruited as an enforcer and trainer of other registered heroes. However, she was contacted by Captain America while he was on the run, but has yet to tell anyone of the encounter...
