Powers & History: Pheromone control. Laurie can cause emotional responses in other people, though she cannot control it well, usually causing people to mirror her current emotions. Laurie’s father had the same abilities, which he used to cause Gail Collins to fall in love with him. When she became pregnant, his abilities no longer affected her, and she left. Laurie was born not knowing her father, but developed similar abilities while on vacation with her mother. Her mother recognized the power, and warned Laurie to not abuse them. She became very introverted, even when she was brought to Charles Xavier’s school. She became worse when she felt that her powers had caused Kid Omega’s riot to increase in violence. Eventually she was roomed with Sofia Mantega, who would not allow her to be alone anymore, and whose wind powers kept Laurie's pheromones from having an effect. She also befriended David Alleyne and Kevin Ford, on whom she developed a crush.

On a mission to New York, they were attacked by Donald Pierce and the Reavers, and she caused the soldiers to take off in fear, until she was skewered by Pierce. Kevin fought off Pierce, and Josh Foley, one of the Reavers, used his newly found healing power to save her life. She instantly became smitten. Josh came to the school, but Laurie didn’t make any moves, especially when Wolfsbane returned, catching Josh’s attention. When Wolfsbane regained her powers and attacked Josh, Laurie finally managed to control her abilities enough to run her off. She also finally got Josh to notice her, and they started to date lightly.

Unfortunately, shortly afterwards Laurie discovered Josh embracing Rahne, who had returned to the school. Livid, she refused to have anything to do with Josh. In fact, Prodigy III asked Laurie to the spring dance, just as friends, and she accepted. However, at the dance Laurie saw Josh talking to Magma and in a jealous fit she used her powers to force David to kiss her. David was disgusted by what she had done, and the squad nearly broke up due to this and other personal issues.

Laurie Garrison was a member of the New Mutant Leadership Institute, and the acknowledged daughter of famed therapist Dr. Sean Garrison. Having been raised as a mutant in a mutant-ruled world, Laurie was very confident and in control of herself and her powers. In fact, she was an undercover S.H.I.E.L.D. agent planted in the NMLI to keep tabs on their activities. When Quentin Quire discovered Laurie's true nature, she used her pheromones to make him so depressed that he shut down his own mind.

Laurie then got herself into the group that was going with David Alleyne and Surge II to Japan to find Nori's human father, who was a terrorist leader. During the inevitable battle that ensued, Laurie revealed her allegiance to S.H.I.E.L.D. and used her powers to make the New Mutants and humans attack each other, even though the kids were trying to find a peaceful solution. Eventually, Cessily Kincaid, Laurie's best friend, was forced to kill her to stop the chaos and the killing that had followed.

Following M-Day, Laurie retained her powers, but so did Wither, who still carried a torch for her. Kevin thought his powers were also gone, and grabbed Laurie's arm in celebration. Unfortunately, he was wrong, and Laurie's arm shriveled. Even Elixir's powers could not restore her, though it did seem to bring Laurie closer to Josh. Laurie was obviously excluded from training activities for this period. Then, after the human ex-students's bus was bombed, Laurie was speaking with Josh, trying to find out why he was so angry, and she was shot in the head by a Purifier sniper working for Reverend Stryker.
