"Messiah Complex, Part 6"
by Ed Brubaker and Billy Tan

Part of the Messiah CompleX X-Over

Synopsis and Review by Silvermoth: Thanks!
Synopsis: Logan is piloting the plane away from the battle with the Marauders, which turned out disastrously for the X-Men. Nightcrawler is unconscious.

Back at the mansion, the Sentinels are tearing up the place pretty bad. Beast takes a stricken Emma to the infirmary, while Warpath attacks a Sentinel with just his knives. Things are looking bad when suddenly the young mutant known as Nehzno leaps out, fully charged, covered with muscles. He takes down a Sentinel single-handedly. Beast worries that he will overload his body and die. Meanwhile, Hepzibah and Warpath help take down each other’s Sentinels.

Back in Antarctica at the Marauders base, Sinister is gloating to Mystique. The X-Men have revealed their hand. They do not have the baby.

At the same time, Cable is leaping through an unknown forest with the baby strapped to his tummy. He comforts the child as he runs.

Back at the mansion, Iceman and Rockslide pilot an X-jet straight into the head of a Sentinel, taking it down in a really awesome way. X-23 leaps out the back of the plane, while Beast wonders why they are taking out the telepaths. Nehzno is then struck by one of the Sentinel’s beams and Bishop runs to help.

Inside one of the Sentinels, Dust encounters a weird cyborg type person, resembling Danger from Astonishing X-men. The Sentinel blows up, but the Cyborg escapes from the shell of the Sentinel and prepares to fire at Cyclops. Too late it realizes that X-23 is behind it and Laura stabs the cyborg through the chest. This knocks them both unconscious.

Another one of the cyborgs from the Sentinels climbs out and says “Mutants, you will be terminated…in due time” and leaves.

• Scott looks at a photo of him and Jean. Wolverine provides a report on the unharmed X-Men. Cyclops agrees to send out X-Force, a group of “X-Men” who kill dire threats.

Review: Brubaker truly excels at these action scenes, another brilliant issue! The strategy involving the X-jet is brilliant and there are some great moments for the young X-Men, in particular, X-23, Nehzno and my personal favorite, Dust. Tan’s art is as always incredibly detailed and beautiful. The Cyborgs are a little weird especially now I have an understanding of the X-Men post Messiah Complex but I’m sure they’ll turn up as future X-Men villains soon enough. All in all, brilliant. Well worth buying.
