"Messiah Complex, Part 2"
by Ed Brubaker and Billy Tan

Part of the Messiah CompleX X-Over

Synopsis and Review by Silvermoth: Thanks!
Synopsis: A news report summarizes the terrible carnage in Alaska. Several locals report that two groups of people were fighting. Emma and Scott are watching the news article. Soon Charles enters, asking Scott why he wasn’t informed that a team of X-Men were sent out. They start arguing about Charles’s recent track record lately. Scott spurns Charles’s help and sends him away.

Angel is searching for the Acolytes base. Soon he is attacked by Gargouille. Colossus bursts into the Acolytes base. One of them fires at him and he goes flying out through the hole he made. Neophyte leaps out of a wall. Luckily, Nightcrawler is on his toes and bamfs Neophyte away. Projector wallops Wolverine with one of his blasts. Ouch!

Meanwhile, Emma is talking to Rictor and Jamie Madrox. Cyclops and Emma are explaining their plans. Madrox is to go with Layla to see Forge while Rictor goes undercover with the Purifiers. Beast and Charles are gossiping away about how Scott is getting a bit power hungry. Charles leaves and visits Cerebra one more time. He feels lonely.

Back at the battle, Wolverine is torturing Projector for information. Nightcrawler is dangling Neophyte over the sky when suddenly he and Angel switch. Angel grabs Neophyte and Nightcrawler fly-kicks Gargouille. Colossus is still fighting the last Acolyte. Suddenly Wolverine drops from the sky and Projector fires a blast at him, hitting Colossus’s Acolyte by mistake. Now they are ready to talk.

As Scott and Emma talk, Scott feels he is missing something. Somewhere in Canada, the monster known as Predator X leaps through the forest, blood on its muzzle, heading off in an unknown direction

Review: Now this is more like it! Brubaker finally focuses on the pay-off, with terrific action all around. The battle between Nightcrawler, Angel, Colossus and Wolverine is beautifully drawn by Tan with many brilliant stratagems shown throughout. The issue packs an emotional wallop also, showing Charles as the king who has lost his castle, so to speak. More issues like this and Brubaker’s appeal to the X-crowd is bound to grow! Predator X is bound to be a chilling villain who I’m sure we will see more of in the future, even if the one seen now dies or not. He looks fantastic! So far the crossover has been brilliant and well worth buying.
