"The Extremists Part 5"
Synopsis and Review by Jacob: Thanks! Meanwhile, Storm is locked in a coffin with the rest of the morlocks teasing her. The rest of the Uncanny X-Men are tied up. Also, Nightcrawler and Charles search the ruins of the X-Mansion. Charles sees what happened to the others. In the tunnels, Masque reveals he wants to blow up a church. Storm manages to send a lightening bolt through all the metal pipes and into her prison. It blows apart. Warpath is also freed. Masque and the rest of the Morlocks must now contend with the wrath of Storm! Masque says this isn’t what happened in the prophecy. In the ensuring battle, Warpath frees Leech. While Masque lies beaten on the floor, Skids steals the prophecy. Now that the battle is over, The Uncanny X-Men retire to the mansion. Warpath and Hepzibah’s relationship blossoms and they kiss. Meanwhile, Skids delivers the prophecy to Magneto! She says that the book says Magneto is still powered. “Did it now” says Magneto. Review: A good issue, not the best but okay. The battle lead by Storm is very cool and both Caliban and Warpath have some great moments. The issue's main problem is its lame ending which represents a lot of the trouble Brubaker’s stories are having. They deal with half-truths and it's time that stopped. It's been nearly three years since Magneto was “depowered” and that is far too long to continue the "is he or isn’t he?" story regarding repowerment. Either come out and say he is powered or that he’s not. Just give us an answer. I’m sure this reader, like many, is almost beyond caring. Also the mini story with Nightcrawler and Charles yielded little fruits. Either come up with something big or drop the story completely. Besides these faults, it’s not a bad arc. It just has problems. As usual, I will add you should only buy this if you’ve bought past arcs of Uncanny X-Men and want to keep up.
by Chris Yost & Andrea Devito Synopsis: Beast is writing his scientific review of his cure for depowerment. He writes “I have failed.” Suddenly he is attacked by Spiral. They have a brief battle but soon it is over. Spiral came to gloat. She leaves as suddenly as she appeared. Beast visits Doctor Strange for magical help. Doctor Strange shows him the reality of magic and how the world reacts to it. It generally looks like a vein of pink connecting several different objects. Doctor Strange says that M-Day was caused by magic but if he tries to reverse it, all of reality will implode as a result. Review: So that everyone knows where I stand in Endangered Species, I consider the whole thing silly and pointless. Its just several stories of Beast doing the same thing over and over again. The whole idea behind it is nothing but an editor’s way of money grabbing by telling readers they must “get all the issues so they know what will happen with Messiah complex.” It has nothing to do with Messiah complex. If you are thinking of buying it for that reason, don’t. Your money is needed elsewhere. Now on to the review. This is the same old, same old. Beast is a very interesting character but there is nothing to define him here. Spiral has little or no point to the story so her introduction was pointless. Doctor Strange’s reaction to reversing M-day could have been explained in a single panel rather than a whole mini magazine, showing the need to stretch out every little thing so that it seems important. By no-one's logic should this mini-series (Endangered Species) be sought out at all. Hopefully the X-editors have learned to just tell the story instead of needless yip yapping.
