Synopsis: This was the conclusion of the Holy War storyline. So needless to say this is going to be relatively short, since the focus was on the conclusion of this plot. We finally learn that the Church of Humanity was behind Nightcrawler’s alleged priesthood all along.

The plan was for Nightcrawler to be the Pope’s successor, but have his image inducer fail and proclaim him as Satan because of his appearance. Mutantkind would then be hunted down and persecuted as the deliverers of the Antichrist. Leaving the Church of Humanity as the only religion humans can turn to and trust. In the end the Pope of the Church of Humanity and the architect of this plan kills herself in an explosion. The X-Men learn she was once a Catholic nun that was raped by a priest and was accused of infidelity by him.

Review: I thought this was a pretty good story. As I suspected the Church of Humanity was behind it all and it was actually a pretty ingenious one at that. What better way to discredit the Catholic church then to expose the Pope as a demon???

I know I said it last week but I’ll say it again. The artwork is killing me!!! It’s horrible!!! It wouldn’t be so bad if Garney inked his own pencils. I think he did waaaaaaaaaaay back in Blade (Midnight Sons) and I liked it then. I just hope that Kia Asamiya returns shortly.
