"Psi-War"

Synopsis & Review by Jacob:
Synopsis: As they struggle through a fierce storm, the team is rescued by a Japanese ship. The crew is happy to help, but regrettably cannot allow them any unauthorized radio contact, keeping them from contacting Professor X. Back at the mansion, Phoenix, still believing the X-Men to have been killed in Magneto’s base, decides to leave to heal on her own. Professor X, however, has been brooding in his study, blaming himself for his students’ ‘deaths.’

He tells her of the experience that started his dream, how while at war, he received a letter from Moira MacTaggert, his fiancée at the time, breaking off their engagement and telling him not to search for her. Not wanting to return to America and his research in genetic mutations, he went to the isle of Kirinos, helping the people there. Their appreciation allowed him to fill the gap inside, and, fulfilled, he moved to Cairo, for no real reason, just to move on.

There, his wallet was stolen by a young Storm, whom he chased and stopped with a gentle psi bolt. Another telepath, just as, if not more powerful than Xavier, responded to this action with giving him a warning blast. Sensing the source nearby, Xavier entered a saloon and awaited this mysterious being to appear. Another figure entered, sitting across from him, and the two engaged in a telepathic conversation. Xavier’s rival, Amahl Farouk, offered him a place by his side, but Xavier responded by challenging him to battle of minds. Farouk gained an immediate advantage, until Xavier stopped countering his psychic attacks and hit him straight with all his psychic might. Farouk was beaten, his physical body killed, while his astral form left in eternal agony.

Finishing his story, Professor X realizes further how much the X-Men meant to him. Lilandra, telling him he cannot start over, asks him to accompany her upon her return to the Shi’ar as her consort. Xavier balks, debating whether to leave Earth, but decides there is nothing left for him, and agrees to go.
