"The X-Sanction"
Synopsis: As the team plays baseball on the grounds of the mansion, Moira realizes that the man from the phone company will be arriving shortly, and goes off to meet him. As she shows the man the problem with the line, he pulls a gun and blasts her with a strong tranquilizer that knocks her out cold. The man, Warhawk, gets to work on the reprogramming of some of the mansion computers when he is contacted by a spirit being who warns him of the repercussions of failure.
As the team comes in from the field, Cyclops tells them they have a date in the Danger Room, but Jean decides not to join the others, as she is unsure of her new Phoenix abilities, though not lacking confidence after her recent victories in space. However, she and Professor X run right into Warhawk, who shoots them down as he did Moira. Jean sends a telepathic distress signal to Cyclops as she goes out, but as the X-Men try to leave the Danger Room, it activates at full power. The team fights, but realize they won’t last long against the powers of the room. Cyclops tells Nightcrawler to teleport out with Wolverine in tow, an act that knocks both unconscious.
As the other four continue to get pounded by the Danger Room, Wolverine regains his composure and slashes the power to the room, shutting it down. As he goes to let the others out, Warhawk attacks him from behind, explaining that he was sent to test the X-Men’s abilities, but not kill them if at all possible. As Wolverine goes to strike back Colossus punches through the Danger Room door, allowing the others to escape and quickly take the villain down. As they celebrate victory, Jean wonders why she was able to be taken down so easily, and agrees to rejoin the team on a full basis.
