Threnody


Real Name: Melody Jacobs

Powers: Threnody absorbs death-energies and stores them in her body. She was a homeless woman who was thought to be crazy because she kept screaming about the pain of the "different ones." Actually she was feeling and feeding off of the pain of mutants with the Legacy Virus. When the energy built up to a critical point, she released it as aburst of destructive energy, accidentally killing two cops. The X-Men encountered Threnody and offered their assistance, but at the same time she was approached by Sinister, who told her that he was in a better position to help her, because he had no moral limits to hinder his work. Threnody went with Sinister, and in return for devices to control her energy releases Threnody monitored Sinister's worldwide network of information sources. The X-Men met Threnody again in one of Sinister's labs, and although she declined to go with them, it was clear that she was using Sinister as he was using her, and that she planned to escape on her own. When she ran away, Sinister set the Marauders on her, but they were stopped by Nate Grey. Nate and Threnody hooked up for a while, crashing in a Soho loft until they argued and Threnody left, to be "killed" shortly thereafter by Madelyne Pryor, an old flame of Nate's, and much more. However, a Jane Doe that can be assumed to be Threnody got up and walked out of the morgue. Threnody was then seen in a subterranean tunnel on a throne surrounded by dead bodies. She was also pregnant, probably by Nate, although that hasn't been confirmed. She soon afterwards ran into Nate again, appearing to be pursured by zombies, but in reality controlling them. Nate fought off the zombies, but dumped Thren right away. Her current whereabouts are unknown.
