Cerebra's Files

The Brotherhood (of Mutants)

BROTHERHOOD I: This now-defunct group, not to be confused with the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, was formed by Havok in the aftermath of his brainwashing during the Onslaught crisis. Saying that he was tired of being told what to do, Havok began terroristic activites designed to protect mutants from humanity. In reality, however, the Brotherhood was a sham, a front for Havok and Ever's plan to expose McCoy and stop his evil genetic experiments. The group had only four members, although they tried to enlist Nate Grey and were working with Aurora (formerly of Alpha Flight) to cure her schizophrenia.

BROTHERHOOD II, III: Another version of the Brotherhood broke Professor Xavier out of Bastion's Hulkbuster base, and looked to Xavier to save them from Cerebro. After Xavier was reunited with the X-Men, the group disappeared for a while, but resurfaced under the leadership of none other than Mystique. Apparently "Evil" in fact if not in name, the group hunted down the remains of Machine Man. After Mystique left the group, though, it seemed to persist as a kind of gang, always planning but never doing anything. Recently, Mystique re-organized the group with some new members in her bid to assassinate Presidential hopeful Robert Kelly and to test a new strain of the Legacy Virus deadly to humans.

BROTHERHOOD IV: A completely separate group under the leadership of the charismatic Hoffman also used the name "Brotherhood" and committed various terrorist acts until they were shut down by the federal government and betrayed by their second-in-command, Orwell. See Brotherhood.

BROTHERHOOD V: The most recent incarnation of the Brotherhood was a short-lived group of X-Men foes put together by Exodus. They attacked a locale in Philadelphia and were repulsed by the X-Men, and then attacked the X-Mansion itself. They were defeated when Wolverine apparently dismembered Sabretooth and the remaining members were sucked into the black hole in Xorn II's head. It should be noted that though Nocturne and Juggernaut were allied with this group, they each appeared to be working undercover, though separately.

BROTHERHOOD (MOVIEVERSE): Magneto's band is simply called the Brotherhood. At first consisting only of Mystique, Toad and Sabretooth, the group added Pyro as a member in X2. In X3 Magneto recruited a huge number of mutants to help him storm Alcatraz and destroy the Cure. Most if not all of these members were either de-powered by the Cure or killed by Phoenix. The expanded roster included Juggernaut, Callisto, Multiple Man, Psylocke, Quill and Phoenix.

BROTHERHOOD (ULTIMATE): Magneto's first group of followers, consisting of Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Toad, Blob and Mastermind. After Magneto was defeated in Washington DC, a new group formed with Forge, Sabretooth and Multiple Man added to the ranks, among others. Magneto's second defeat sent the Brotherhood underground again, and it is unknown whether his new set of followers in the Savage Land, including Longshot, consider themselves as the same group.
