Surge II

Powers & History: Electrical discharge, and super speed. Nori absorbs nearby electrical sources to power her, but discharges violently when she gets more power than her body can handle. After running away from a home where her father ‘didn’t believe in mutants,’ she came to Xavier’s school looking for help, but was sent away by Julian Keller. She accidentally hurt Luna DePaula, then stole her money to buy pills that helped her control her powers. That caught the attention of Josh Foley, who went looking for her with his friends. They waited out her overcharge, then brought her back to the school, where Beast was able to design special gloves to handle her power levels (much like Havok’s suit). Trying to make up for stealing from Luna, she then took a job at the Grind Stone coffee shop in Salem Center.
Nori was roomed with Dust, whose strict Muslim upbringing and customs sometimes brought tension into the room, but they eventually managed to live together amicably. Nori also grew closer to David Alleyne (Prodigy III), but after he had a vision of the future in which they were married, but he turned evil and they killed each other, David backed off and Surge was visibly upset by his lack of interaction. Finding out the truth didn't help her, either, and they seem to have parted company.
| As a young girl, Nori was adopted by Emperor Sunfire, a distant cousin, after her father tried to suppress or hide her mutation. In her teenage years she was sent to New York to become a member of the New Mutants Learning Institute. There she met and started dating David Alleyne. Soon, however, Surge was invited to join SHIELD's Hellion's training squad, which often put her at odds with her former classmates.
Following a terrorist attack on the NMLI commencement ceremonies, Surge was shocked to find out that she was being left behind on the Hellions' next mission, because it was to stop her father, who had become the leader of a human terrorist organization. Nori did not want her father to die at SHIELD's hands, so she convinced David to help her find him first. Along with other New Mutants, Surge infiltrated a SHIELD compound and found Agents Ford and Foley torturing Cameron Hodge, one of her father's men. |
After M-Day, Surge was one of the students chosen by Emma Frost to train as a New X-Man, and furthermore, she was given leadership of the squad when Hellion disobeyed Emma's order to neutralize X-23.
Note: Surge I was the alias used by Mystique during her inflitration of the X-Corps.
