Codename Etymology: Pronounced shăt'ər'stär [From Old English sceaterian "to scatter" + Old English steorra "star"].
Powers & History: Shatterstar, in his original body, was a genetically engineered warrior with enhanced senses and physical abilities. He also had hollow bones and genes very similar to those of Longshot. Aside from being a master swordsman and a superb athlete, Shatterstar has a seldom-used mutant power to channel energy through his sword. He appeared suddenly one day when the New Mutants were still using the lower levels of the X-Mansion. He fought off some of Mojo's soldiers and was quickly asked to join the team. He remained a core member through the transition to X-Force and for quite a while afterwards. Over time, he developed a close friendship with Rictor, who tried to help him adjust to a world very different from the one he was created on.

All of these attributes have recently been called into question with the revelation that at some point in the past, Shatterstar's body was killed and his soul now inhabits the body of a human boy named Benjamin Russell. How this affects him physically is still unknown. Shatterstar eventually left X-Force to help Rictor clean up his family's illegal activities.

Supposedly, in the future, which is in Shatty's past, Cable from the present gets thrown into Shatterstar's battle, and Shatty is killed by Mojo. Spiral takes Star's umuer or whatever - his spirit and timejumps into the past (right before NM 100) and places the spirit into Ben Russell's body, Russell being a comatose mutant kid in the Weisman Institute. Shatty wakes up, escapes and goes looking for a way home. Why Spiral saved him is uncertain, but it lends support to the idea that he's Longshot's kid, and maybe NOT by Dazz, but by Spiral. That, or Spiral's in love with him.

Recently, Shatterstar journeyed to a temple to find himself, and was also involved in a fighting tournament for superhumans. He then reunited with his X-Force teammates to help Cable fight the Skornn.

Following M-Day and the passing of the Superhuman Registration Act, Shatterstar teamed up with Domino to break the 198 out of the encampment set up for mutants on the grounds of the Xavier Institute. They took the escapees to a secret base provided to them by Captain America via Nick Fury.
