Sentinels
The Sentinels are giant robots that were created expressly for the purpose of
hunting, capturing, and in some cases killing mutants. They are equipped with
mutant-tracking sensors, lasers, catchwebs, disintegrator beams and other various
and deadly weapons. In addition, Sentinels are self-adapting, learning and modifying
themselves after every encounter. The first person to create Sentinels was Bolivar
Trask, but he was killed by a malfunctioning unit. His son Larry took over and
managed to capture a number of mutants, including the X-Men
before they were destroyed. Steven Lang then restarted
the program, but the X-Men fought him and his batch of robots as well. Sentinels
all but took over the world in Rachel Summers'
future, destroying all super-powered beings and enslaving humanity. Usually
the Sentinels are controlled by a Master Mold, a prime unit that functions as a director
for all drone activities. Today the Sentinels represent humanity's last line of
defense, and every mutant's worst nightmare. The latest batch of Sentinels, created
for Operation: Zero Tolerance, were actually humans who had been fitted with cybernetic,
techno-organic implants. These altered humans were used as "sleeper" agents, unaware
of their natures until a signal from the OZT base activated their programming,
which also induced the implants to create armor and weapons systems. After Bastion
was defeated and the operation shut down, Stryfe somehow
got their command codes and hunted down Lady Deathstrike
to gain complete access to their command net (Deathstrike was supposedly cyborged
by the same people who created the Sentinels). Fortunately, the X-Men stopped
him, but sadly, there is no way to de-cyborg the sleeper units.
