Real Name: John GreycrowScalphunter's full origin is unknown. He appears to be of Native American descent, though that is mostly speculation. He was first recognized as a mutant by Mr. Sinister during World War II. At that time, Greycrow was a soldier in the United States Army stationed in Germany (in the same unit as Nick Fury). Upon scalping eight of his fellow officers, Greycrow was caught, court-martialed and shot by a firing squad. When he emerged from his grave shortly afterwards, Sinister was waiting for him and Scalphunter has apparently worked for him ever since.
Scalphunter also has some past with Gambit that appered to predate their involvement with Sinister. It appears that at one point they were even close friends. Recently, a clone of Scalphunter asked Gambit to let him die and prevent him from being re-cloned. Gambit agreed in the name of their friendship, but it seems that Sinister had a backup gene sample, as Scalphunter was recently seen assisting Sinister in his experimentation on refugees from the Weapon X Program's Neverland facility. However, he wanted to get out from Sinister's thumb, and helped Sabretooth defeat Sinister's genetically engineered goons, giving him a telepathic scrambler that disabled them. Whether he was able to escape Sinister is unknown.
After M-Day, Scalphunter retained his powers and ended up at the Xavier Institute, which became an internment camp for the remaining mutants. When Mr. M led many mutants out of the compound, Scalphunter helped fight off the pursuing X-Men with a gun he cobbled together. However, a Sentinel blasted it out of his hands. Then, when Apocalypse appeared and offered salvation, Scalphunter went aboard his craft.
