Powers & History: Speed, speed, and more speed. Nuff said! Quicksilver is possibly the fastest human in the Marvel Universe. His powers, however, have caused him to have a very condescending attitude towards the rest of the world, which drags his life along at what is to him, a snail's pace. Pietro also carries with him a great and dark legacy as the son of Magneto, a fact which constantly haunts him. Pietro and his sister Wanda were born in the High Evolutionary's citadel at Mount Wundagore after their mother Magda fled from her husband Magneto, whose powers had recently manifested. Magda left the twins with the Evolutionary's servant Bova, who tried to substitute them for the child of WWII hero Robert Frank (AKA the Whizzer), who had died in childbirth, along with their mother Madeline (AKA Miss America), only minutes before elsewhere in the citadel. However, upon learning of his wife's death, Frank was so distraught that he ran out of the citadel, leaving Bova with two babies to house. (Years later, however, the twins would come to believe that Frank was their true father.) She brought the situation before her master, and the Evolutionary chose the gypsy couple Django and Marya Maximoff, who had lost their children in the War, and presented them with the children of Magneto. Upon reaching adolescence, Pietro discovered his gift of speed, and used it to escape his town with his sister when Django began to steal food for his family. When Wanda's powers first flared up and destroyed a house, Pietro tried to save her from the ensuing mob, who believed she was a witch. Just then, Magneto, with no idea that he was their father, appeared and saved the twins, bringing them to Asteroid M and recruiting them into his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants under the names of Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch. Pietro and his sister followed Magnus for some time, but then left for their home in Transia, where they were soon recruited by the Avengers. Later, Pietro joined Magneto once more, coercing Wanda to come with him, but then changed his mind and the two became Avengers again. In a battle with the Sentinels, Pietro was severely injured, and was whisked away for medical attention by Crystal, a member of the Inhuman Royal Family. During his convalescence, Pietro fell in love with Crystal, and the two were soon married. Pietro joined the Inhumans' militia, but saw no action, and shortly thereafter, Luna Maximoff was born. At the same time, Magneto discovered that Pietro and Wanda were his true children, but when he tried to convince Pietro to rejoin himm, he was refused. As stated above, Pietro can be difficult to live with, and his neglect of Crystal drove her to another man. Pietro freaked, and refused to forgive her. He then embarked on a campaign of terrorism against the world, starting with the framing of the Avengers. Later, it was discovered that Crystal's cousin Maximus had been using mind-control to intensify Pietro's aggression, and when it wore off, Pietro and Crystal attempted a reconciliation, which failed miserably. Quicksilver joined the West Coast Avengers, and after Crystal came to Earth with Luna and became an Avenger herself, joined the new government-sponsored version of X-Factor. At the time, Pietro was under attack from an unknown enemy who was turning his power against him, and causing him to age a bit more quickly. X-Factor eventually defeated this enemy, Sen. Stephen Shaffran (Ricochet), and Pietro returned to normal. After their daughter Luna was abducted by Cortez, and after her subsequent rescue, Pietro and Crystal got back together. However, Crystal apparently died in the battle against Onslaught, and Pietro, overcome with grief, returned home to Transia, where he became the leader of the Knights of Wundagore, a group of animals who had been "evolved" to sentience and humanoid form by the High Evolutionary. When the heroes returned, Pietro and Crystal were reunited, and Quicksilver accepted the status of reserve member of the Avengers. However, when Magneto was given the island of Genosha to rule, Pietro journeyed there. He was captured by resistance forces and would have been killed if not for the intervention of Rogue and Voght. After Magnus crushed the resistance, Pietro was ready to storm off when Voght teleported him to a mutate camp for Legacy Virus infectees. Seeing the horrors occuring there, Pietro decided to stay in Genosha and act as his father's conscience, to remind him that both mutants and humans have to right not to be persecuted. This was all according to Magneto's plan, as he hoped to bring Pietro around to being a loyal and subservient son.

Recently, Magneto succeeded in restoring Genosha to its former glory, but with the mutants in charge. Only the town of Carrion Cove still resisted his leadership. Pietro investigated the rebellion and found that the town possessed technology that could bring Magneto back to full power. He opposed letting his father get a hold of the machines, but in the end he (and the Avengers) failed to stop Magneto. Pietro appears to have left Genosha.

After Wanda killed some of the Avengers, forcing the team to disband, Quicksilver was on hand to witness the discussion between the X-Men and the Avengers regarding his sister's fate. In anguish, he ran to Genosha to beg Magneto to help her, but Magneto was uncertain of the right action to take. Turning to Wanda herself, he convinced her to use Charles Xavier's abilites in conjunction with her own to make the perfect world where they could all get their heart's desires...

As a member of the House of M, Quicksilver was royalty of the highest order, though his relationship with Magneto was still strained. He pursued Queen Ororo, hoping to make her his wife and increase mutant solidarity, but she repeatedly rebuffed him, nicely. Eventually, thanks to Layla Miller many heroes's mind were opened up to the true reality, and they attacked Genosha, though they thought Magneto was the manipulator who caused Wanda to make the warp. Pietro defended his family, but when Magneto's mind was returned to him, he attacked Pietro, apparently killing him, or at least severely wounding him. Due to this attack on her brother and sole supporter, Wanda returned reality to its true path, but eliminated over 99% of the mutations on the planet.

Following the House of M warp, Pietro was among the de-powered. He attempted suicide, but failed, and was found by Crystal, who returned him to Attilan to be healed. While there, Pietro requested terrigenesis to restore his lost powers, but he was refused, so he slipped into the Mists Chamber on his own. Returning to his quarters, he found an older version of himself who told him how he had traveled forward in time thanks to his new powers. However, the physical toll was extreme and Pietro told himself to return for another exposure. This time, using both an older and current version he managed to steal more Terrigen crystals while maintaining an alibi for himself, and actually leaving Attilan with Luna (via Lockjaw) before the theft even occurred. Back on Earth, Pietro exposed himself and Luna to the Mists. He then traveled to Genosha to provide the ex-mutants there with powers. Unfortunately, his first few "patients" had side-effects. For example, Callisto's senses went into overdrive, to the point where her mind had to shut down due to sensory overload. Magneto saw what happened and chastised Pietro, who turned on his father and berated him for his inaction. Soon the Inhumans came to Genosha, as did General Lazer and O*N*E. Lazer stunned Pietro, causing Luna to freak, but Lockjaw teleported them away without the crystals.

Back in his hideout, Pietro realized that Luna was addicted to the Mists and told Lockjaw to return her to her mother. He then spent weeks inhaling the Mists, imbuing them into his body on a permanent level as he tried to increase his power to the ultimate degree. He then succeeded in jumping into the far future, where he apparently witnessed some cataclysm that he caused, but he realized that he could not change his destiny, so he embraced it. Afterwards, Pietro walked the streets, finding ex-mutants and re-powering them with a simple touch.

Eventually, Pietro contacted X-Factor Investigations, despite the best efforts of Layla Miller to keep him away. Through him X-Factor discovered the X-Men had lied about the Decimation, and he was left alone. He opened up an office in a hospital, to which ex-mutants could come to be re-powered, and he invited Rictor to join him. Pietro also displayed the ability to overload an existing mutant's powers when he stopped a mind-controlled Strong Guy from harming X-Factor.
