Powers & History: Pulse emits a pulsing energy from his eyes that has a variety of disrupting abilities, including being able to scramble electronics, disable mutant powers, and mask brain waves from psychic detection. Not much is known about Pulse before he came in contact with Mystique, except that he is a master thief, thanks to his powers. When Mystique met him, she was a bit enticed by his skills as a thief, and then even more so when she learned of his powers, especially its effects on mutants. She finally saw a bit of an opening to be able to give her daughter, Rogue, the chance to experience the touch of another person without worry.

While Mystique set out to infiltrate the X-Men and break up Rogue and Gambit, Pulse kept on with his thievery until she met up with him again to set things more in motion for him to meet Rogue.

After M-Day, Mystique finally brought Pulse to the Institute, cashing in on their offer to make her an X-Man after her last visit, and announcing that she would like Augustus to start dating her daughter. Rogue was incensed at this, claiming she was still very happy in her relationship, but at least agreed to talk to Pulse to at least get Mystique to let up. Augustus was at least more of a gentleman about the situation, and wanted to be friends with Rogue before anything happened, which she agreed with, but was intrigued that his power allowed him to touch her. Soon after, Gambit wrecked his relationship with Rogue, by becoming a Horseman of Apocalypse, and losing most of his memories of her. After Apocalypse was defeated in a battle where Pulse had a heavy hand in his defeat, Rogue moved on from Gambit and began to return some of Pulse’s advances. However, soon after that, Gambit, now known as Death, attacked the school with Sunfire to retrieve their fellow horseman, Polaris. During the attack, Remy actually attempted to kill Rogue, and Pulse came to her rescue. They managed to escape, and Pulse tried to go on with his relationship with Rogue, but the experience turned her off of love, and left Pulse out in the cold.
