Affiliation: Hellfire Club NYShe was trained as a pilot and placed in Scott Summers' grandparents' airline rotation, so that when Scott, his brother Alex, and their father Chris came to Alaska to see their family, Madelyne was the pilot of their plane. Scott, still grieving for his lost love, immediately was intrigued by her "double," and even thought that Phoenix might have resurrected herself, as she had apparently done before. Support for these feelings came when Madelyne mentioned that she was once the sole survivor of a plane crash that had occurred on the exact same day that Jean had died. (Of course, this was an implanted memory, fabricated to explain the memory of death and fire that she had received from the Phoenix, and not an actual event.)
Scott and Madelyne fell in love, and despite the best efforts of Mastermind to convince the X-Men that Maddie was Dark Phoenix, were married shortly thereafter. Scott and Madelyne stayed with his grandparents in Alaska, and were flying a passenger/cargo plane when Loki's Firefountain erupted and changed all of the humans aboard into superpowered beings. Madelyne became the healer Anodyne, and revealed that she was pregnant with a boy. After the Firefountain was extinguished, Madelyne returned to normal, and gave birth a few months later. However, the tension between Scott and Madelyne was building, and they left to Alaska after their son Nathan's birth. Scott soon left for NY, and founded X-Factor upon the real Jean Grey's return.
Hurt but determined to carry on with her life, Madelyne left Alaska on a flight carrying cargo for the company, which had been bought out by a disguised Sinister, and was hunted down by the Marauders, Sinister's agents. They wanted her child, the powerful mutant for whom their master had waited over 150 years. Maddie found and hooked up with the X-Men, and was one of their number when they sacrificed their lives to help Forge defeat the Adversary. Madelyne, along with the X-Men, was resurrected by Roma, and chose to live in the Australian Outback with them, where Maddie became the team's computer expert.
When she was captured and brought to Genosha, Madelyne was subjected to a deep telepathic scan. The backlash killed the telepath, and seemed to have activated latent power within Maddie. Unfortunately, when she discovered that Jean was alive and with Scott, Madelyne was corrupted by S'ym and a demon named N'astrih, and became the Goblin Queen, a being of great magical power. Along the way she also started a kinky affair with her brother-in-law Havok. In defiance of her creator, Sinister, the Goblin Queen planned to sacrifice her son in order to open a dimensional portal that would transform Earth into a demon planet. The X-Men and X-Factor fought her and she killed herself when she tried to take out the teams. The Phoenix essence that had motivated her then re-appeared, leaving Jean with her memories.
Her death seems to have been confirmed by her intrusion into Cable's and Cyclops' mind while they were captured by Apocalypse. She offered Cable a chance to escape with her to another plane, but when he refused and asked her to help them instead, she said she couldn't, because she was just an echo on the astral plane.
Note: A woman calling herself Madelyne Pryor appeared when X-Man traveled to our reality from the "Age of Apocalypse." She possessed telepathic and telekinetic powers, as well as apparent healing abilities, and purported herself to be the resurrected Madelyne Pryor. However, she was in fact the evil Queen Jean Grey from an alternate reality who was trying to use our Nate Grey as an ultimate weapon.
