Powers & History: Piecemeal had the ability to absorb different energy frequencies and store them in his body. His mother creully exploited this ability and forced Gilbert to travel across the world with her and the Alliance of Evil to absorb the dispersed energy of Proteus, the deceased reality-warping son of Moira MacTaggert. As he did so, Piecemeal grew larger and larger, until he was so full of energy that he looked like a 700-pound monstrosity. X-Force, the "X-Men" staying on Muir Island and the New Warriors tried to help siphon off the energy, but their best efforts failed. Finally, his body could not handle so much energy for long and he exploded. In that instant, Gilbert's mind combined with Proteus's (although it seemed that Proteus was the dominant personality), and the new entity set about warping reality all over Scotland. It also captured their mothers and held them hostage as X-Factor arrived. Finally, X-Factor convinced the boys to let go and return to oblivion, which presumably ended Piecemeal's existence. This is further supported by the fact that when Proteus reappeared months later in the Star Trek universe, inhabiting the body of Gary Mitchell, there was no trace of Gilbert Benson.
Piecemeal II was a Genoshan mutate who appeared to have complete control over his body's molecules, to the point where he could morph into anything imaginable, including sophisticated technology. He was playing a spy device when X-Factor discovered him and was blasted by Havok. He re-formed himself but was subsequently subdued.
