Real Name: UnknownPetra’s family moved to America from Denmark while her mother was still pregnant with her. They were an instant American family with a quaint home in the suburbs with the usual fixings, until one day, when they went on a hiking trip and a rockslide killed everyone except her, who escaped without a single scratch. No one could explain how it happened or how she survived, but she was shuffled off into foster care. The experience was terrible, with the father even being a molester, and one day, when he made a move on her, she lashed out with her mutant powers, sucking him partway into the ground. This frightened her, but she realized she really was a mutant, and that meant she was responsible for her family’s deaths, or at least she could have tried to save them.
She learned to survive on her own as a homeless runaway, doing the usual stuff like panhandling and stealing, but never sunk low enough for worse. She learned more about her powers too, creating her own cave home in Central Park, and turning coal into diamonds and pawning them off for money. However, one day a pawn broker seemed to catch on to her, and called the police. She tried to escape back to her cave, but ran into the cops before she could get there and was caught. She wasn’t there long, when Moira MacTaggert learned of her, and came to bail her out and invite her to her own little mutant school.
There, she trained in the use of her powers and became friends with fellow students Sway, Darwin, and Kid Vulcan. Professor Xavier himself even came to work with the kids on occasion, until one night, he came for a different reasons. He had lost contact with his X-Men after he sent them to the island of Krakoa, and he needed help to rescue them. The kids agreed to help, and Xavier put them through mental training that would make them think and feel like they had been training with him for months. He then gave them their own uniforms and sent them to Krakoa.
Once there, they lost contact with the Professor, but were able to free Cyclops from the island’s captivity, but severely hurting Krakoa in the process. This infuriated the living island, and after they got Scott on their jet, they went back for the others, but it sent a volcano creature after them. Sway was immediately cut down, and it began to incinerate the others, but Petra used her powers to make the ground swallow them up, but she died before she could get out of the beast’s blast. However, her efforts were not entirely in vain, as it allowed Vulcan and Darwin to be protected and allow Darwin to merge with his friend to keep him somewhat alive throughout the years, even as Krakoa was sent into space, until M-Day happened, and the resulting energy wave that was sent into space resurrected him, with the powers of all his friends inside him. Vulcan (or Darwin) used Petra's power to create a giant rock hand that caught the space shuttle on which he re-entered Earth's atmosphere.
Following Vulcan's defeat and separation from Darwin, a memorial funeral was made for Petra and Sway on the mansion grounds.
