Powers & History: Guy's mutantcy was apparent from at least age 3, and probably from birth. He has two fleshy antennae that protrude from his forehead, and blisters all over his skin as a result of his incredibly sensitive skin. Even air rushing by his skin is enough to irritate Guy, and his other senses of taste, smell, sight and hearing are on par with Wolverine's, and in many cases, even better. Guy spent his childhood in foster care following a fire that supposedly killed his parents. When his powers fully manifested he studied many disciplines of the mind and body in order to block the pain his sensitive nature kept him in constantly. Guy also became a master of martial arts, a side benefit of this education, as many of the healing arts have applications in destructive arenas. He then came to the attention of Professor X, who designed and constructed a special suit that Guy wears to blunt his highly-trained senses, making daily life a little more bearable. Guy was still vey depressed over his fate, and took to playing Russian Roulette with a loaded gun each night before bed.

When Guy was recruited into X-Force, he was introduced as Mister Sensitive, but immediately changed his name to the Orphan. Surprisingly, Guy was picked to be team leader over senior members U-Go Girl and Anarchist. U-Go Girl was furious and tried to talk Orphan into running away from his job, going so far as to teleport the two of them into a free fall from thousands of feet up. Orphan remained is his slot, but after losing two members on his first mission questioned his leadership. He was further disturbed by Coach's revelation that the young mutant X-Force had rescued was to be dissected for his unique blood. Guy spirited young Paco Perez away, causing Coach to attempt to kill him with a back-up duo. X-Force broke up the fight, but Coach then convinced U-Go Girl to do the job.

Edie came to Guy's house and distracted him with a complex drink request, loading all the chambers in his handgun while Guy was out of the room. Of course, the Orphan's powers allowed him to feel the weight difference and he confronted Coach, leading to the death of Coach and his minions (thanks to help from Wolverine and U-Go Girl, who had already changed her mind about Guy but had been drugged by Coach to keep from interfering). This left Guy in sole command of X-Force, and it appears he may take the group in a more positive direction that it was on previously. Unfortunately, Coach's plans also dug up Guy's parents, who claim he was an evil child who was responsible for burning down their home years ago. This does not seem to have affected the Orphan's image and position.

Recently, Guy helped Edie get her powers back on-line, and the two of them began an intimate relationship. Then the CIA came after Guy and forced him to accept a mission that the team would intentionally lose, allowing the CIA to save them and look good. This was payback from the pharmaceuticals who were upset at Guy for abducting Paco Perez (and the billions of dollars of new drugs they could have made from him).

On their next mission (to defeat the mutated convicts called the Bush Rangers), U-Go Girl was killed when a Bush Ranger posing as Spike shot a bone spur into her stomach. Orphan went into a depression and contemplated suicide again. Then Spike Freeman re-modeled the team into X-Statix, and Guy rejected teleporter Venus Dee Milo, basically due to repressed guilt and attraction. When Venus showed him her tragic past, though, he agreed to let her on the team.

Venus and Orphan began a sort of relationship, but it was always colored by Orphan's mourning for Edie and never progressed anywhere. Then Orphan began seeing visions of Edie, which it turned out were sent by Arnie Lunt, a U-Go Girl fan who blamed X-Statix for her death. Orphan, however, realized the danger that Arnie's incredible power and unstable temper posed, and kept plying him with dinner and other fanboy fantasies, even allowing him to join X-Statix to keep him calm. Meanwhile, Orphan contacted Lacuna, and hired her to inject Arnie with poison during the mission, making it appear that his already weak heart gave out. Guy then left X-Statix and spent a few weeks brooding and morose over his actions. Then, an entity came through a warp created by Venus and became "Bad Guy," whom many people thought was Guy Smith (Orphan) gone bad. Bad Guy was targeted by X-Statix, and Orphan went to help out, proving his innocence.

After consummating his relationship with Venus, Orphan asked her to help him go through and pack up U-Go Girl's belongings. She agreed, but tension still remains between Venus and Guy whenever Edie's name or memory comes up. Meanwhile, Orphan stepped down as leader and was replaced by the Anarchist. Orphan was still with X-Statix's for its last mission, which they were hoping would provide enough cash for retirement, but was instead a deadly ambush. Guy was shot in the chest, but manage to survive somewhat thanks to Anarchist's sweat, which sealed the wound. When Tike ran out of sweat, Guy and Anarchist made a "Butch Cassidy"-style run at the enemies and were killed.

Some months later, Orphan was contacted by Dead Girl and Dr. Strange when a dead villain calling himself the Pitiful One used the Eau du Profundis to resurrect himself and other dead superhumans for 24-hour periods. At first Guy was depressed and self-deprecating, but after he found his beloved U-Go-Girl he began to regain his leadership qualities. After Dr. Strange was pulled out of the afterlife, Edie offered to take them away to a private place, but Guy demanded that they complete their mission. Afterwards, Edie laughingly blew Guy off, but he knew he would see her again...
