Dateline 2005: Life is good under the rule of the House of M. Mutant rights are at an all-time high, and our culture is flourishing with advances in the arts and sciences. Sapiens, our ancestors and former oppressors are treated fairly for the most part, especially those exceptional few who have gained super-abilities in some fashion. Our great and powerful leader, Magnus, protects his kingdom with strength and skill, as we usher in a New Age of Enlightenment.

These are exciting times we live in, class, and now, more than ever, students at the Xavier Institute have a responsibility to search out and understand the ways in which the media portrays mutants. That's why we've created this Journalism course: to study the mutant media and to train you to not only find the news but also to critique and comment on it.

There are four sections to this course. First is an archive of news stories compiled from 2000-2001, mostly by our old TA Dust. These articles are here for your review and education in the arena of X-related news.

Next is our archive of the old CoolBoard. Here your can study the comments to the news reports that your predecessors in the class brought in, and see for yourself how journalistic criticism works. Not all the links work - email me to help re-format this section.

NEW! We have upgraded to a new Posting Board, so our old EzBoard has been archived. Please do not post to this board any longer - if you see something you want to discuss, copy the text, post on the new Board and provide a link back to the EzBoard topic.

Finally we have this semester's Posting Board, which forms the core of your assignments for this class. This is where you put your education to use, by searching out mutant news and posting it for your classmates to discuss. You will also be responsible for commenting on the articles posted, and on each other's comments. Critiques often turn into debates, which is good, but keep things civil and clean. Speak your mind, but respect your classmates. I will of course be available to help you should you require it.
