Synopsis & Review by DarkPhoenix89. Thanks!
Synopsis: Night time, New York City.: Carol Danvers a.k.a. Ms. Marvel flies through the night sky with two S.H.I.E.L.D. helicopters behind her. She wonders to herself how the world has changed so much in only a few days. There was nothing mystical or wondrous about this change and below, some S.H.I.E.L.D. agents get into position on a nearby rooftop. She continues by saying America watched firsthand as school children were killed in Stamford, Connecticut and America demanded action to be taken. Which is how she got into her current situation and she heads down into an alleyway to confront Hobie Brown, a.k.a. The Prowler. Carol informs him that he is under arrest for violation of the Super Hero Registration Act! Stand down immediately or. When Hobie cuts her off by saying he is trying to help people! And now he is going to jail for it?! No way man! And he fires a beam of energy from his glove at Carol but she dodges and fires a photon blast that knocks him out. She informs the S.H.I.E.L.D. soldiers that the target is down.

The next day, Carol's Apartment: Carol is having a nightmare. A voice asks if she is ready. Carol wonders ready for what? When another voice confirms that she is. Carol realizes she cannot move, something is holding her. Another voice hopes the straps hold and apologizes again that they are unable to administer aesthetic. Carol starts to beg when she wakes up to someone banging on the door. She gets up out of bed and asks who it is and could they stop trying to knock the door down. She opens the door and Simon Williams a.k.a. Wonder Man greets her and reminds her that they were supposed to be at Stark Tower fifteen minutes age.

Just outside Stark Tower, home of The Avengers: Carol yawns and complains that she slept like crap last night and now she is late for the morning briefing. She comments on how she shouldn't have given up drinking coffee.

Inside Stark Tower: Carol and Simon walk in and Simon apologises to Julia Carpenter who is hanging upside down on the ceiling. She informs them that Ironman is late too and was being to think she missed a memo. Simon catches Julia as she drops from the ceiling and reminds her that they haven't seen each other in ages. He then asks how life as Spider-Woman is treating her. Julia informs him that its Arachne now, she figured it would be confusing if she stuck with Spider-Woman because there are so many running around these days. Carol gives her a hug and asks how her daughter, Rachel is doing? Arachne tells her that Rachel is fine, she is currently with her grandparents in Denver until they get this whole registration thing sorted out.

Ironman walks in and apologises for being late, his schedule is a bit crazy these days. He pulls up a hologram of the Prowler and says that as much as it pains him, Captain America's little stunt is drawing the attention of some other heroes and leading some smart people to make some dumb decisions. Last night, Carol's team brought in Hobie Brown a.k.a. The Prowler, who had still been illegally operating in the Queens area and he then pulls up an image if The Shroud and informs them that they have finally managed to get some reliable intel on Maximilian Coleridge, also known as The Shroud.

Tony informs them that Coleridge single-handedly defeated an entire squad of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s finest three nights before. Tony then informs Julia that Carol and Simon are going on a special assignment so it is her job to bring him in. Julia tries to protest but Tony tells her she has three squads at her disposal.

Tony then pulls up an image of Araņa and tells Carol and Simon that this is there target for tonight but there is a hitch. They know she goes by the name Araņa and they've confirmed reports on her area of operations but beyond that they know nothing more. Some reports say she might be a teenager and even though the public service announcements say there is no age limit, she still might think the registration doesn't apply to her because she is under eighteen. When they find her, she gets the same chance to register as anyone. It might be past the dead line but he doesn't want to lock anyone up who is willing to play ball. Any questions? No? Then meeting over.

As the all leave Tony asks Carol if he can have a word with her. He takes off his helmet and asks is Captain America tried to contact her. Carol knew this was coming and recounts when she came home and found Cap in her apartment. She knew trouble was brewing.

Past, Carol's Apartment: Cap asks if she has a minute. Carol doesn't know what to say and tells him she has to register. They all do, its there duty as Americans not to break the law. Cap asks if even the law is unjust? Carol says that's not how this country works. Cap replies by saying he used to believe that. Carol tells him that this registration thing is for the best. It will make people feel safer. She stops when she notices Cap has turned away and stopped listening to her.

Present, Stark Towers: Carol tells Tony that she doesn't know where Cap is, if that's what he is asking. Tony understands and tells her to go find their mystery girl. Tony puts his helmet back on and looks out the window as Carol walks out of the room.

Outside, Simon informs Carol that Araņa has been spotted in Brooklyn the most so it would be a good idea to start looking there when he notices Carol looks a bit down. He asks if she is ok but she tells him that she is fine and it's time to roll.

Ryker's Island Maximum Security Detention Facility: Hobie Brown sits in an interrogation room with his hands handcuffed to the table. A blonde S.H.I.E.L.D. officer walks in and greets him. Hobie just tells him that he isn't his wife or his lawyer and those are the only people he wants to see right now. The officer pulls out a photo and asks if he is the Prowler because with so many super underwear types locked up these days. It's hard to keep track of all their names. Hobie says he needs his lawyer before he says anything to him. The officer says that's too bad, because if could just tell him that one little thing, they could be good friends. Now why wasn't he in his apartment last night? Hobie tells him he has no idea what he is talking about. The officer tells him that maybe be hasn't clear enough; he was in his apartment until five minutes before they arrived, and he ran away, in costume. Like someone had warned him that they were coming but who. Maybe it was her! And the officer starts waving a photo in Hobies face. Hobie tells him to back off but the officer tells him to tell the truth or he'll be thrown into a dark hole that he'll never get out of. Or maybe his wife was doing some patrolling as the Prowler too? They both don't have any powers so it would be easy to believe she used the same gadgets too. Hobie says to stay away from and the officer just tells him to tell him what he needs to know. Hobie confirms who tipped him off and the officer thanks him for his help.

Max Coleridge's Penthouse: Julia enters Max's penthouse and asks where he is. Max appears out of the shadows and asks if they are on their way. Julia walks up to him and they share a passionate kiss. When they finish, she tells him she tried slow them down. She lied to them about where he was and raced over there as fast as she could. Max tells her it's pointless; Stark is on a crusade. Julia assures him that Tony is too busy chasing Captain America to care about him and that he sent her to round him up. Max is shocked Tony sent her specifically. Julia says it was just a coincidence, Tony doesn't know about them or there plans. Max tells her he is not running, someone has to stand up to this. Julia points out that it doesn't have to be them but Max tells her no, not us, just him. All the sudden Julia hears helicopters and notices a bunch of them outside the window. She warns Max to run but he asks what will happen to her when they find her there without him? After she lied to them and slipped away on her own. She needs to think about Rachel. What would happen to her if her mother got caught? He will fight them and let her subdue him and escape later but for now they have to make them believe that she is still on there side.

All of a sudden soldiers come crashing in through the window. They tell Max to put his hands on his head. Max tells them that Ms. Carpenter was just advising him of his rights before they rudely broke his windows. A soldier tells Julia to step away and Max tells her again that her daughter is more important then her when suddenly Julia blasts the soldiers with a venom blast and tells him to run. They jump out the windows and the soldiers fire after them.

Brooklyn: Carol complains that crisscrossing Brooklyn all day might not have been the best idea ever. She meets up with Simon and as they land they both agree that this was a stupid plan. Carol tells him she would rather look for a needle in a haystack. Simon replies by telling her they would have a better chance of finding it because they know it would be the haystack. Carol then points out a Chicken Cow and that she is starving. Simon says that flying around in circles all day can do that too you. Carol tells him last one there has to pay for dinner. Simon complains saying that's not fair.

Carol mentions that she hasn't eaten at a Chicken Cow in years. Simon tells her that he hasn't either. Carol tells him that when she was in high school she used to hang out at her local one all the time everyday after school. Simon is surprised that she ate there that often and still has the figure she has now. She tells him while changing into her civilian clothes that flattery will get you everywhere but not out of buying dinner.

Inside Chicken Cow: Unknown to Simon and Carol, the person they are looking for, Araņa, happens to work at Chicken Cow. She complains that her job is so dull that she has to keep pinching herself to stop from falling asleep on the cash register. She welcomes them to her part of the counter and asks how she can help them. Carol orders the double chicken chilli cow, a large order of potato hunks and a extra large chocolate frozen moo juice. Simon asks if there is anything vegetarian on the menu. Carol asks since when is he a vegetarian? Since I felt my cholesterol increase when he heard her order her food he replies. Anya tells Simon they have Trick'n Sandwiches. They're vegetarian chicken patties that taste nothing at all like chicken. Simon says it sounds good to him; he'll take one of those when he is interrupted by a bunch of guys in clown masks. The leader tells everyone not to move and to slowly reach into their pockets and purses when Carol interrupts him telling him that has no idea what a terrible mistake he has just made. He walks up to her and points a gun to her head asking her if that's so? Maybe he should blow her head off and see what kind of mistake that is?

Anya is hiding on the other side of the counter panicking that she didn't want to do this here but people are going to die if she doesn't help. Simon asks Carol if she is bullet proof because he can't remember. Carol just looks at him and says bullet proot? On Anya's side of the counter, as she puts on her carapace, Simon and Carol begin beating up the bad guys as Anya gets ready to kick bad guy butt but hopes no one notices it was her.

Seconds Later: Carol and Simon have finished beating up the bad guys and Carol asks if everyone is ok? As she changes back into her civilian clothes she compliments Simon on a job well done. Simon goes to ask if maybe they'll get a free dinner out of this when Araņa jumps up ready for a fight asking who want a piece of. when she notices the bad guys have already been taken care of by Simon and Carol.

Review: And thus begins Carol's tie in to Civil War. Nice issue, it kept me guessing and I like that. Last issue when Cap was in Carols apartment, I thought Carol was going to maybe be some sort of double agent. Maybe work for Cap and give him up-dates about what the pro-side are up to but it turns out its not Ms Marvel who is doing the double crossing but Arachne. For the voices in Carols dream, I'm pretty sure it was the Brood but I'm not too sure. Oh, I nearly forgot to mention the art. David Mack's cover is nice and Roberto De La Torre who does the art is great. My only complaint is that he sort of makes Wonder Man look a wee bit old and when he draws certain characters, there eyes look at bit too small.

I've only sort of recently gotten into comics and I'm not too familiar with certain characters but wasn't Arachne de-powered? And I'm not to familiar with Araņa but what's up with the costume? The head on it reminds me of the lovely Ms. French from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (For those who don't know, she was a giant praying mantis woman who wanted to mate with Xander.)

Now on to Civil War. Ever since it began, I've been on against it. I can see where the other side is coming from but I don't believe superheroes should give up their identities, the public know who's side the heroes are on and they want to know their identities just so they can sleep easier at night after some guy blew up a town? The public should be glad to be alive or enjoying the fact that there country isn't ruled by some crazy man or that they are being sold to alien warlords as slaves. There are reasons why there identities are secret; going public puts there loved ones in danger and they deserve some privacy. When you're fighting a war, people will die and you can't protect everyone. I mean what's next? Registering heroes today, concentration camps tomorrow? The government always want to control its people and they seem to think registration is the way to do it but it isn't! It's most likely to make the public turn on their governments in the end and not trust them as much.
