Mimic

Real Name: Calvin Rankin
Affiliation: None
Previous Affiliations: Brotherhood of Mutants, X-Men
Alternate-X Versions: (Exiles: Earth 12, core team), The Big M (Exiles), Cal (Evolution)
Codename Etymology: Pronounced mĭm'ĭk [From Greek, mīmos: "imitator"]; One who imitates.
Powers & History: Mimic can duplicate the powers of any mutant near to him. His long-term exposure to the powers of the original X-Men, however, combined with certain power enhancements, left him with their powers permanently.

The first non-mutant to ever become an X-Man, Calvin came to the school after being exposed to his father's experiments, and walking near the plain-clothed Beast and Iceman, he suddenly outgrew his shoes and became cold. After following the effect, Calvin quickly figured out who the X-Men were and where they lived. He attacked the Mansion, but not as a true enemy, instead loading up on the X-Men's powers and offering his services to their team. Arrogant and cocky, he refused to take orders from Cyclops, believing that his multiple powers made him more valuable than any individual X-Men. The X-Men were eventually forced to remove Cal's powers and wipe his memory of them.

However, Cal soon transferred into Jean's school, and eventually he remembered his mutant experience. He was able to restore his powers and soon came after the X-Men again, this time meeting with Professor X and convincing him that he should join the team. Xavier agreed and also made Cal the deputy leader, replacing the angst-ridden Cyclops. Mimic was not long for the role: during a battle with the Super-Adaptoid, an android that could also mimic powers, Cal was swayed by the arguments of the Adaptoid and ended up helping him. However, when the Adaptoid revealed its plan to turn everyone in the world into a Super-Adaptiod, Mimic broke their truce and helped the X-Men defeat their foe. However, his brief betrayal indicated to Mimic that he was not suited or worthy for life as an X-Man, and he was brainwashed again.

The Mimic ended up living in Siberia with members of the Mutant Underground for years, but was abducted by Onslaught after a brief altercation with X-Force. Onslaught gave Mimic more control over his powers, and that control was further enhanced by the techno-genius Sledge after Onslaught's defeat. Mimic worked for Sledge for a time, but was then captured by Operation: Zero Tolerance. He was rescued by Excalibur, and remained with the team until their recent dissolution. Presumably he remained on Muir Island for only a little longer, as he was recruited into the second Brotherhood of Mutants by Mystique to hunt down X-51, and remained with them even after she left. Mimic has not appeared with any subsequent versions of the Brotherhood, and so his status is uncertain.
