Magneto IV

Full Name: Kuan-Yin Xorn
Affiliation: None
Previous Affiliations: X-Men
Relatives: Xorn "II" (brother)
Status: Deceased (Wolverine)
Powers & History: The entity known as Xorn and Magneto IV has a mysterious origin, and consequently his exact powers and history are uncertain. What is known is that he created his personae based on real mutants, and may or may not have been a mutant himself. As Xorn, Magneto IV professed to have healing abilities (in reality injected nanites that rebuilt or replaced damaged tissue), energy projection and gravitational control via the "micro-black hole" inside his head. The energy emitted from Xorn's "face" was so powerful that it can reduce a human to slag in a few minutes. Consequently, Xorn always wore an iron mask. In truth the mask was a telepathic blocker that Magneto IV used to keep his true nature from the X-Men's telepaths. As Magneto IV, he appeared to have the full range of Magneto's abilities to manipulate metal and counteract gravity, among other things. It is important to note that as Magneto, the entity was on the Kick drug the entire time, which may have allowed him to duplicate the powers so closely, meaning that his innate abilities were likely not as strong.

The Xorn cover story used by Magneto IV went as follows:

Xorn was born in China years ago, which was unfortunate for him, given the Communists' heavily anti-mutant stance. He was a certified genius, with incredible potential, but when his brain was incinerated at puberty by a tiny sun that grew inside his head, the government imprisoned him inside a giant facility called Feng Tu, after the Chinese netherworld. Amazingly, the black hole did not kill him, or affect his ability to use his brain. Plans to use Xorn as a power source never went anywhere, and his potential, both mental and physical went to waste.

Xorn escaped Feng Tu once, but was recaptured soon after and a new Feng Tu was built around him where he fell, made from the remains of the first one. There Xorn sat for many years, until his "warden" a mutant named Ao Jun, hooked up with John Sublime and his U-Men. Ao Jun made a deal to sell Xorn to Sublime for his parts.

Magneto IV also set up Ao Jun as a contact for the X-Corporation's agents in Asia, Domino and Risque. Domino and the X-Men found Feng Tu, busted in with the X-Wing and freed Xorn. Magneto, as Xorn, acted quite depressed by his sad existence, and tried to commit suicide by collapsing the star in his brain into a black hole. Cyclops managed to talk Xorn out of dying (and taking the rest of the world with him through the black hole's event horizon) by offering him a job with the X-Men.

"Xorn" accepted, but first went to a monastery to clear his mind and soul. There he often utilized his healing powers, which is why Cyclops returned sooner than expected to see if he could heal Professor X, who was at the time trapped in Cassandra Nova's infected and dying body. Xorn agreed, but the mutants were captured en route by the Shi'ar, who were under Nova's control and had come to purge Earth of mutants. While on the Shi'ar ship Xorn managed to disable the Superguardian assigned to them, and he and Cyclops helped save Earth. On returning, "Xorn" accepted a position at the school and began to teach the "Special Class." His helmet apparently blocking Xavier's telepathy, Magneto began to indoctrinate his students in his philosophies. When Cassandra Nova returned, "Xorn" used his nano-Sentinels to heal Xavier's crippled body, allowing him to walk. Only Magneto IV knew that the healing was not natural and was in fact under his control. While at Xavier's, Magneto IV appears to have had a hand in the riots of the Omega Gang, the death of Sophie the Stepford Cuckoo, and most importantly, the attempted murder of Emma Frost. There is also some undetermined connection between Magneto and the Weapon Plus program, though whether he is friend or foe to them is uncertain. It is important to note that Sublime figures prominently in setting up "Xorn" with the X-Men, as it was Sublime's Kick drug that may have controlled Magneto IV, and the entity itself may have been one of Sublime's Super-Sentinels.

Magneto IV finally made his move when Wolverine, Cyclops and Fantomex blew up the Weapon Plus space station, which had apparently been built on the ruins of Asteroid M. He manipulated Dust into destroying Cerebra, then shut down the nanites allowing Xavier to walk, blew up the X-Wing carrying Beast and Emma, and revealed his true nature to his old nemesis. Then he blew up the Mansion and put Professor X in a stasis tube.

Magneto was high on Kick for much of his rampage through New York. He ripped apart buildings and bridges and kept the other heroes away with threats of massive destruction in the outer boroughs. Asserting control over the city he renamed "New Genosha," he rounded up the humans and prepared to exterminate them. Some of the "Special Class" opposed him, for various reasons: Beak and Angel IV because they didn't want to be murderers, Esme because she wanted to be his paramour, and Magneto even killed Basilisk because of his stupid questions, and later killed Esme, who was objecting to his treatment of her. However, the mutant crowds got rowdy and eventually the X-Men confronted Magneto and freed Professor X from imprisonment. Cyclops blasted away Magneto's helmet, so Magneto put on the Xorn helmet, and many mutants didn't recognize him. Finally, with Professor X's assistance, Magneto was subdued, but he built up a lethal EM charge and delivered it to Jean, killing her. Wolverine went nuts and apparently beheaded Magneto. Only later did Professor Xavier reveal to the real Magneto that the attacker of New York was an impostor. No one outside those on Genosha recruited by Xavier knows the truth.
