Maggott
Real Name: Japheth (?)
Affiliation: None
Previous Affiliations: X-Men
Status: Presumed deceased (Weapon X Program)
Relatives: Father & Mother (unnamed), Lot (brother, deceased),
Daniel (brother), 2 other unnamed brothers
Alternate-X Versions: None
Codename Etymology: Pronounced măg'ət [From Old English matha]; Wormlike fly larva.
Powers: Maggott's entire digestive system has mutated into two giant metallic/robotic
slugs, Eany and Meany, that have the ability to eat through anything. Because
he has no digestive system the slugs must eat to keep Maggott alive. When they
have filled themselves, the chew their way back into Maggott's abdomen, sealing
it behind them. Once inside, they release the energy that powers him. When powered
up, Maggott turns blue, and has super-strength. As a child in South Africa, Japheth
was very sick and diagnosed with stomach cancer. He attempted to kill himself
in the desert to spare his family the grief and monetary loss that he was causing
them, but accidentally took his little brother with him in the car. Before they
died, however, Magneto appeared and suppressed Japheth's pain, whereupon
the two slugs chewed their way out of his stomach. Magnus wanted Japheth to join
his cause, but after seeing Magneto kill people, he refused. Maggott did travel
the globe looking for Joseph on Magneto's orders, but
ended up as part of the X-Men, after a fight with Psylocke
brought him to Antarctica and Gambit's trial. His slugs
were thought to have murdered some people, but that ended up being the work of
the Ru'tai. Maggott was at the Mansion a short
time, and then he made an appearance at the Massachussetts
Academy, where he was attacked by the bounty hunter Slaughter. Maggott left
after the fight to find Slaughter and bring him to justice.
Recently, Maggott was among the mutants incarcerated by the Weapon X Program at its "Neverland" facility. He befriended a mutant girl, and gave her one of his slugs to hold, just before he was hustled off to a processing center with other mutants. Maggott was apparently deemed undesirable by the program and seems to have been killed by them. The slug has survived, as the girl and her brother were smuggled out of the camp. Unfortunately, they were saved by Dr. Windsor, a disguised Sinister, and the slug is now in a holding tank.
