Yukio is driving through the mountains with Carmen and Logan in the back and Kitty in the passenger seat unconscious. Carmen keeps yelling at her from the back seat to slow down, and that Wolverine really needs to get to a doctor. He wants to know why Kitty is tied up in the front seat, and what they've done to her. Yukio gets tired of listening to him and pulls over. She drags him out of the car and threatens him if he doesn't shut up. As the two of them are arguing Kitty comes to and phases free of the ties and the cars. She takes off running. Yukio tells Carmen to stay with Wolverine and runs after her. She realizes that the drugs she used on Kitty must have worn off more quickly because of Kitty's mutant metabolism. The two fight as Yukio recalls what happened back at the train depot. She gets the better of Kitty, who's still groggy from the sedative, and drags her back to the car. Yukio takes them all to the Clan Yashida stronghold in the mountains.

Kitty wakes up the next morning with Wolverine by her side. She hugs him and tells him she's just had a terrible nightmare. Wolverine tells her that it was real, that she must face the truth, no matter how much it hurts. Kitty breaks down and cries, then apologizes to Logan for everything. They share breakfast while Wolverine asks Kitty what's happened to her. Then he tells Kit everything he knows about Ogun. He also tells her an old Japanese legend of the Musashi, Japan's greatest swordsman and a man named Ogun, who was his equal in skill. Kitty asks if he means Ogun is immortal and he says no one knows for sure. Later he argues with Yukio about Kitty. She tells him that he shouldn't be out of bed, but he insists that he has to act before it's too late. Yukio tells him that it's already too late, that Kitty will never be free from Ogun, but Logan tells her he has to try.

Outside in the garden, Kitty asks what Ogun has done to her. Logan tells her that he's imprinted his psyche onto hers. That he's created a "psychic clone" of himself inside of her head and that eventually her own personality will be overwhelmed. Kitty wants to go home, to have Xavier erase Ogun's influence from her mind. Wolverine tells her that

Ogun wants her and he's going to keep coming after her until he has her, or he's beaten. He begans training Kitty by having her attempt to hold the honor sword of the Clan Yashida at arm's length, but Kitty is unable to do it. Next morning he begins training her physically. Days pass and Kitty gets stronger, but she's still not able to hold the sword. Wolverine gets a call from Xavier. Xavier lets him know that Storm has been hit by an energy weapon that's taken away all of her powers and that his friend Guardian is dead. Wolverine slams outside and howls. He believes that he can't do anything back home for Storm or for Guardian and that if he leaves now he'll lose Kitty too. He decides to stay.

Later, Wolverine and Kitty are out running. It's begun to seriously snow and Kitty trips and twists her ankle, but Wolverine refuses to help her. She tells him that if he doesn't help she'll freeze to death in the snow. He tells her it's her choice to live or die, fight or surrender. That maybe it's better this way, to die a clean death than to live a life afraid Ogun will come to claim her. She cries out that it isn't fair and he tells her it isn't fair for anyone and leaves her. When Wolverine returns without Kitty Carmen freaks out. Yukio tells him to be calm that they'll take out the sno-cat and find her. Kitty comes up behind them and tells her it's not necessary. Wolverine holds the door for her and she trudges past him furious. Later, she comes to realize that Logan is giving her a choice, and succeed or fail at least she's made the decision to try on her own. Wolverine and Yukio find her the next day holding the sword. That night she creeps into Logan's room. She thinks to herself, saying she's won, but lost as well and tells him good-bye as he sleeps.

She's waiting at the airport for her flight back to America. She's planning on going back the the X-Men and having Xavier help her, but she starts to think that maybe she's running away. The way she ran away when Peter broke up with her, and when she found her Dad with the gangsters. She realizes that the important thing isn't erasing Ogun's influence, but facing him and her own fears. She heads for Tokyo.
