Synopsis & Review by Specter313:
Synopsis: Agent Jessica Drew requests permission to land on a SHIELD helicarrier. Permission is granted as we see all the heroes get off their quinjet while Emma reveals that she is using her powers to make everyone around them think they aren’t seeing them. Spiderman thinks that’s just creepy, as they follow Nightcrawler to the command deck. As we see many reports coming into the deck of the ship, the group enters and Emma takes control, commanding Captain Greycrow to set course for Genosha.

At said destination, we see another ship land with the House of Magnus waiting. Off the ship steps Dr. Doom, who says he was surprised to be invited, and is welcomed by Magneto, who was surprised Doom RSVPed, and they pose for photographs.

In the mess hall, the group is resting, as Cyclops encourages them to eat to keep their strength. Rogue’s anger outweighs her hunger. We see Luke Cage sneak away someone’s cell phone, and calls for a listing for his love, Jessica Jones. He ends up just with her answering machine, but hangs up when he finds out she’s with someone else in this reality. Spiderman wonders if he got a hold of her, but he just wonders why he even bothered, and asks Peter if he got ahold of Mary Jane. Luke tries to say that she wouldn’t be any less successful if she was with him, but Peter says except for the fact that they aren’t together, and she is a success.

Cyclops decides now would be the good time to give the leader speech. He says that ever since he’s been the X-Men’s leader, he’s always prided himself on using restraint. But today, if they lose, they lose everything they’ve done up to this point in their lives. They can’t lose this, so they can’t fight with any restraint. Wolverine asks for the plan, and Scott starts, but is interrupted by Spiderman. Are they going to put the world back, he asks. Can they put it back? Emma just says they’ll know when they get there. Ms. Marvel chimes in wondering if they try, but they can’t fix things. Do they tell everyone else the truth, or keep it to themselves? Emma just repeats herself. Kitty wonders if they’re even supposed to do this. Isn’t putting things back just as bad as what’s already been done? They might make things worse. Cloak says they have to try, but she asks who says. Drew finally adds her two cents, asking just who really got hurt in this. This gets Nightcrawler’s attention, as she continues to say that everyone got what they wanted, isn’t that a good thing? Weren’t they happier with all this? Don’t they deserve to be happy? Wolverine says she’s going to be embarrassed she said that out loud, but she continues, saying that maybe this is how things are supposed to have happened. With something this big, how are they supposed to say how things happen? Maybe this is how mutants are supposed to become dominant? Make that two things to be embarrassed about. She translates this to mean that they don’t know if she’s right or wrong and it scares them. This quiets everyone down, and Emma says that have to try. They have to find Xavier. Cyclops asks if everyone is done, and moves back to his plan, starting with there being three teams.

As an announcer gets ready to introduce the prestigious guests to the House of M party, with a sea of mutants and paparazzi, high above on the helicarrier, Cyclops begins to expand on his plan. Why three teams? Because even with Emma and Dr. Strange shielding them, they’ll still know they’re coming, as it’s not exactly a bike they stole.

A heavyset guard asks another guard, Phantazia, what’s wrong?

King T’Challa of Wankanda is introduced to the crowd.

Cyclops says the primary goal is to find Xavier and wake him up with Layla’s powers. Cloak will transport her and Emma wherever Emma says, and he asks if they’ll need anyone else. She says no, they’ll need the men, and Layla sarcastically says there’s no pressure.

King of Latveria, Victor Von Doom, is introduced.

Genis-Vell, delegate from the Kree is introduced.

Scott points out that Dr. Strange has gotten through to Wanda in the past. He says that he should be able to communicate with her on the astral plane, and hopefully get to the heart of the problem and find out what happened. But that all depends on the state of her mind.

Princess Ororo of Kenya is introduced.

Does Strange need anyone else for backup? No, so the rest of them…

King Namor of Atlantis is introduced.

They’ll keep the House of M busy.

Now, the announcer makes the grand declaration, as the guards bow and the audiences erupts in applause, of welcoming the House of Magnus, as we see Magneto with this three children, Quicksilver, Wanda, and Polaris, with two of his grandchildren. But Phantazia sees something wrong.

High above, we see a black figure, which continues to grow as it advances, and we see it’s a Sentinel headed straight for the House of M. Magneto and Polaris easily stop it with their powers, but we see that it was just the transportation for the final group of heroes to get them into the palace, as they launch themselves into battle. As most of the others keep the guards busy, Cyclops goes straight for Magneto, who’s still busy stopping the Sentinel, and gives him a full blast with his optic beams. Polaris cries out, as Magneto has disappeared, but with no one holding back the Sentinel, it crashes right where the rest of the family was standing. Rogue repeats Scott’s command to not hold back, so she decides to do so, and launches herself right for Ororo and Namor, and someone’s eyes glow green.

In the garden on the other side of the palace, Emma and Layla emerge from Cloak to find themselves alone, but can hear the fighting in the distance. Emma begins to tell Layla to focus, but she stop short when she sees Xavier’s memorial stone. She collapses to her knees in shock as Layla begins to panic about just what it means. Cloak says to wait, and he slides into the ground. This only serves to unnerve Layla even more, wondering if he’s going to pull up some bones, but he suddenly pops up and says there’s nothing there. What, says Emma. No body, no coffin, just dirt. Xavier’s not here, it’s not over yet.

Review: Uh, does anyone else feel like we got half an issue here? This just seemed like all build up and nothing else, and they just drop us off before we can see anything good, and end it with something that isn’t really much of a shocker or cliffhanger. It seems like such a waste of a good opportunity, as there’s only two issues left after this one, and they’re gonna be kicking themselves if they have to cram in a whole bunch of stuff and anger fans when they could have fleshed things out more.

There were some nice moments though. I really enjoyed seeing Cyclops take the leader role so easily and have everyone respect it. He really doesn’t get that much credit than he should, and I’m glad to see him get such a big role in this major event. I also liked the little scene between Luke and Spiderman when they tried to comfort each other over their significant others having better lives without them.

It was nice to see some lesser known characters make cameos as well, such as Phantazia and Sasquatch, but what happened to the rest of the Cage’s human resistance group? The only ones who showed up in this issue were Black Cat, Iron Fist, and Moon Knight. They made it clear that they’ll need all the help they can get, so where are they?

The art, at least, still stays just as good as ever. The details that Coipel puts into his pencils, especially with the clothing, is just really great to behold, and combined with the great colorings, makes for some really stand out art. But is it just me, or is She-Hulk’s top getting smaller the more we see her?
