Affiliation: "Astonishing" X-Men (unofficial)During Kitty's tenure on Excalibur, Lockheed befriended the dragon who powered the Cross-Time Train, but the relationship remained platonic (probably due to the vast differences in their body sizes), and the dragon later produced hybrid offspring with Numbers of the Technet. During a battle for control of Limbo, Lockheed protected Kitty and was severely wounded by Doctor Doom, and nearly died. While in the hospital, his astral form was summoned to a conclave of his race, who are in fact a great intelligent star-spanning culture. Patrolling the galaxy in astral form in their colony ships, the dragon race speak in rhyme and have a militaristic culture. Lockheed was summoned because he was a scout when Kitty found him on Sleazeworld and in returning with her to Earth he effectively went AWOL, abandoning his post. Worse, as the most prominent Brood-fighter, Lockheed was scheduled to marry the day after Kitty found him, and his betrothed was horrifically embarrased at being stood up.
Lockheed defended himself by describing the heroic members of his adopted family in Excalibur. Though at the time he didn't speak English, members of his race are empaths, so all were able to feel what he felt about his team, and what they felt about him in return. Even Lockheed's spurned betrothed urged him on, still feeling love for her intended. Lockheed finally won his case by saving the astral ship when the pilots fell asleep, preventing his people's souls from dissipating. The court commuted the death sentence, but exiled Lockheed forever from his race.
Lockheed recovered, and when Kitty returned to the X-Men, he apparently didn't go with her for some unknown reason, which is especially strange since Lockheed was at Brian and Meggan's wedding with Kitty when she, Kurt and Piotr decided to leave Excalibur. (Note: sneaky Lockheed grabbed Meggan's thrown garter and deposited it on Colossus after Kitty ended up with Meg's bouquet, indicating his clear preference for Colossus as Kitty's love.)
Weeks later, the abandonded Lockheed was being chased by hunters when he was found by two young girls who were witches. They cared for him, but when Lockheed saw that the sisters were abusing their power and terrorizing their town, he opted to help their rival Thorne, a good witch. Thorne was able to divine Lockheed's name and past, and told him that Kitty had returned to America, thinking Lockheed had died. Lockheed flew across the Atlantic and reunited with his truest friend.
Lockheed is now an unofficial member of Cyclops's squad of X-Men ("Astonishing" team), and was a big help on their first mission, blasting the alien Ord with his flame and forcing him to retreat. Somehow, and the timing is uncertain, he was contacted by S.W.O.R.D. and given a direct line of communication to Agent Brand, who used Lockheed as a mole inside the X-Mansion. His exact mission is still unknown, but it seems to be relatively benign. Most importantly, when Ord and Danger attacked the mansion for the second time, Lockheed was spotted speaking in what must be his native language, proving once and for all that he is highly intelligent.
