Cheney, Lila

Full Name: Lila Cheney
Affiliation: None
Alternate-X Versions: (AOA)
Codename Etymology: First name pronounced lī'lə [From Leela: "play"].
Powers & History: Lila is an teleporter, but one of such power that she can't do small jumps. In fact, her trips routinely take her at least halfway across the Galaxy. To traverse short distances, she usually teleports to her Dyson Sphere at the other end of the Galaxy, and then back. The use of her power does not appear to tire her, nor does it seem that she is limited in the amount of people she can transport at once. Aside from being a teleporter, Lila is also an excellent thief and the leader of a self-titled band. It was in those two roles that she met the New Mutants, who accidentally got transported by Lila when some aliens attacked her at one of her shows.

Lila planned to steal the Earth by sending it through a giant Stargate. She claimed that Earth had sold her into slavery, and this was her revenge. The New Mutants fought against her alien overlords, and convinced her to give up her unlawful ways. She even started a romance with Cannonball, and the New Mutants always thoroughly enjoyed her music. Later on, the alien named Spyder bought out Lila's "debt" and planned to recapture her, but the New Mutants stopped him as well.

Lila has since broken off that relationship, but though her connection to the X-Teams is tenuous, she is still considered part of the "family." For a time, Dazzler toured with Lila as a backup singer under a false identity, until she was possessed by Malice. Guido Carosella (Strong Guy) was once and is now again her chief bodyguard, and is very close with her. When a group of Skrulls attempted to take over the Shi'ar Empire, Deathbird contacted Lila and had her bring the X-Men to Chandilar to stop them. Lila and her band also played at the wedding of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Jean Grey (Phoenix) and at Meggan and Brian Braddock's (Captain Britain) nuptials on Otherworld.

Months later, Lila was still touring the galaxy when she decided to pop in on Sam again and rekindle their relationship. She took him away for a while, then returned him to the (X-Treme) X-Men. Lila hung around for a short time, then went off on her own again. Soon after, Storm and Yukio used one of Lila's tesseract-based safehouses while they infiltrated the Arena fighting circle.
