Icarus

Full Name: Joshua "Jay" Guthrie
Affiliation: "New Mutants" Squad (Xavier's student body)
Relatives: Relatives: Zebulon (father, deceased), Lucinda, (mother), Samuel (Cannonball, brother), Joelle (sister), Elisabeth (sister), Paige (Husk, sister) Zachariah (brother), Jeb (brother), Lewis (brother), two other unnamed sisters, Lucas Bartholomew (uncle) - Guthrie Family Tree
Powers & History: Icarus has a number of powers, the most obvious being his large red wings, which allow him to fly. It is likely that he also has hollow or light-weight bones to minimize his mass. In addition, Icarus has a healing factor which can repair even fatal wounds, and a set of vocal cords that produce a choral sound in multiple independent tones and ranges.

The second oldest son of the Guthrie family, Joshua was thrust into a leadership position as a young teen, when his brother Sam joined the New Mutants. While Sam was away, Josh took responsibility for his siblings, a need for which he sometimes resented Sam. Josh was musically inclined, and played guitar since his childhood years, then started a band while in high school. One summer he had a fling with Julia Cabot, daughter of a local family rival, though they didn't encounter each other afterwards for years.

Years later, Josh's mutations manifested themselves, but for some reason he kept them secret from his mother, perhaps not wishing to be sent to Xavier's, like Sam and Paige. Strangely, however, he revealed his powers to the town's teens during a band session. Julia, a waitress at the bar where the concert was held, fell in love with Josh again. Josh, now calling himself "Jay" eventually recognized Julia and rekindled their old flame. Unfortunately, tensions came to a head between the Guthries and the Cabots, and Julia's family got hold of some old battle armor used by Humanity's Last Stand and found the young couple. Jay was apparently killed by Julia's father, who left his body with Julia.

Distraught, Julia took Jay's body into a lake and sank to the bottom with him, preferring to die than live without her love. Unfortunately for her, Jay's healing factor kicked in and he returned to life, and brought Julia's corpse back to land. He was trying to kill himself with a pointed stick when the X-Men found him and stopped him.

Eventually Jay agreed to try the Xavier Institute, and was roomed with Squidboy at first. He was also chosen to join the Hellions squad under Ms. Frost but after the squad chose to break Wither out of FBI custody, he requested a transfer to Dani Moonstar's New Mutants squad. He also seemed to be attracted to Dust, from the rival Hellions.

Afte M-Day, however, Jay saw Reverend Stryker on television and seemed captivated by his message. Then Stryker himself found Jay praying in church for Julia's soul, and revealed to Jay that he knew about his wings. Suddenly, though, Jay was found outside the Mansion with his wings amputated and his healing factor not working. He was delirious and even fought off Elixir's attempts to heal him. Apparently, Stryker also convinced Jay that he wanted to help save the ex-mutant kids at Xavier's, so Jay phoned him when their bus was leaving, allowing Stryker to send his Purifiers to blow it up. Jay also lured Dust to Stryker's hideout, and then went there himself, activating the Nimrod remains that Stryker was using...
