Gryphon

Real Name: Ekatarina Gryaznova
Affiliation: Aguilar Institute
Previous Affiliations: Operation: Zero Tolerance
Alternate-X Versions: None
Codename Etymology: Pronounced grĭf'ən [From Old French, griffon, from Late Latin gryphus, misspelling of grypus, variant of gryps (gen. grypos), from Greek gryps (gen. grypos) "curved, hook-nosed," in reference to its beak]. A monster with the body of a lion and head and wings of an eagle.
Powers & History: None (human). However, Gryaznova was part of an experiment that cybernetically linked her to a robotic battlesuit named Jericho. Her last deployment with the suit came when Domino broke into the installation to rescue one of the researchers and destroyed the prototype, frying Gryaznova in the process. Badly injured, she was eventually "recruited" by Bastion and transformed into a Prime Sentinel. When X-Force came to rescue Dani Moonstar from a Sentinel set-up of the M.L.F., Gryaznova saw the perfect opportunity to exact her revenge from Domino. Although the Sentinels were defeated, Gryaznova managed to capture Domino, and returned her to her base, where she had an implant installed in Domino's neck which disrupted her spinal cord's electrical signals, severely diminishing her abilities. Afterwards, however, Gryaznova was nearly destroyed by Bastion, who found out that she was secretly working for the Aguliar Institute, and large corporation interested in mutants. Bastion uploaded a virus into Gryaznova's system which disrupted her nanotech body and threatened to kill her. Before that happened, the Institute found her, and the doctors there were apparently able to halt the virus by using a radical gene therapy that combined Gryaznova's DNA with that of other creatures. Hideous, but super-strong, Gryaznova took the name Gryphon, and was shortly thereafter confronted by Domino, who beat her severely. Unwilling to lose, Gryphon blew up the Institute, but Dom escaped. Whether Gryphon survived is unknown, but given the range of her new abilities, is highly likely.
