Madripoor

Location: Madripoor is an island of the coast of Asia.

Origin: Hundreds of years ago, pirate gangs settled the island, finding it a hidden paradise from which to base their operations. Consequently, Madripoor is a place where "anything goes," from gambling to outright gang murder.

Madripoor is one of Wolverine's favorite hangouts. A clash of cultures has split Madripoor into the upper-class, technologically advanced "Hightown" and the low-class, seedier "Lowtown." Logan, under the alias "Patch," of course prefers Lowtown. Until recently Madripoor was run by Prince Baran, but now Viper has been selected to take his place.

The extreme contrast between "Hightown" and "Lowtown"

Physical Features: Like most South Asian islands, Madripoor has a volcanic origin, which produced a low-lying coast surrounding jungle highlands. These mountains are not terribly high, as very little contrast in elevation can be seen from the shore, but apparently there is enough climactic variation to allow for dense tropical forests on at least part of the island.

Native Inhabitants: Mostly people of Asian extraction, though travelers and businessmen from all over the world have settled in Madripoor in recent years.

Sights to See:

  • Princess Bar:
  • Prince Baran's Castle: Situated on a hill in the capital, the Prince's Castle almost beggars description. Laden with tapestries, armor and tons of other artifacts of a pirate king's hoard, the Castle is a veritable museum, worth seeing IF you can get an invitation. A pool in the center of one room was actually a deep water-filled shaft, in which lived a giant squid- or octopus-like creature before it was killed by Wolverine.
  • Sovereign Hotel: This mammoth structure is billed as one of the finest hotels in the world. It boasts all the Western luxuries with an Eastern flair. The penthouse suite is in fact a triplex (three-floor) apartment, with a monthly rate that could bankrupt some small countries. General Nguyen Ngoc Coy had an open-ended lease on the penthouse during his tenure as half of Madripoor's crime lord team, and Karma often stayed with him as she searched for her missing siblings. We recommend a more modest room, which still provides an excellent experience.
  • Wharfside: This coastal part of Lowtown was run by Morrow and Piggot, with much animosity between their factions. Eventually tensions boiled over into open battle, and Morrow asked Patch ("Wolverine") to protect his son Gabriel. Logan agreed, and ended up fighting Piggot's men when they attacked the boy. The battle ended in stalemate, where it may remain, so be careful if you venture into the area.
  • Space Elevator Temple: [Description Needed]
  • Ruby? Brothel: While we don't recommend this location to our students for its primary services, it is important to note that Ruby's "staff" are trained medics, so if you are injured while in Lowtown, you can enter to find medical care.
