Aerie

Location: Dallas, Texas, United States of America

Origin: Designed by Forge and built as the penthouse apartment of 555 Eagle Plaza in downtown Dallas. The Aerie and the tower were destroyed in battle with the Adversary, but was later rebuilt. It appears that Forge himself built much of the Aerie's features, if not the structure itself.

Holographic environments
Physical Features: The Aerie is a few stories tall, with exterior walls of high-tension glass. Much of the Aerie was a large main room that is completely open and comprises many split-level floating platforms, with floating stairs between them. The Aerie also has a pool and Forge's sanctum sanctorum. Furthermore, Forge built a holographic projection system that could replicate any environment imaginable in the entire open area. The holograms could be set to encompass the full living area, making all the rooms' walls, ceilings and floors transparent, with only slightly lighter openings indicating the doors. Walking among the floating platforms could be dangerous, since not every hologram indicated where the platform ended. Often, however, Forge left a light border around the edge of the platforms to prevent visitors from falling off.

In the rebuilt Aerie,

(Native) Inhabitants: For most of the Aerie's existence, Forge lived there alone, though Storm stayed there for a short time, and returned a few months later. After the building was rebuilt, Forge lived there with Mystique until she left with some of his technical marvels.

Sights to See: Since the Aerie's hologram system could reproduce any environment, just visiting is a treat. Be sure not to miss:

  • Forge's Sanctum Sanctorum: This was the focal point of Forge's magical power. Though he originally renounced his Shaman heritage after opening a portal during the (Vietnam) War, he still built the round room, perhaps as a meditation chamber.
  • Forge's Lab: Don't touch anything here - you can't afford it!
  • The Olympic-sized swimming pool. Excellent for a quick dip, or for workout laps.

The floating platforms
Historically Relevant Highlights: Forge brought Storm to the Aerie after his Neutralizer gun was used to wipe out her powers. There they fought the Dire Wraiths, and it was there that Storm sought Forge months later, hoping to force him to restore her powers. The penthouse had fallen into great disrepair, and the entire building was destroyed in the battle with the Adversary during the "Fall of the Mutants." However, it was rebuilt, and Forge returned there with Mystique after quitting the X-Men. Soon after, Fitzroy attacked the Aerie, and it was destroyed during the battle. Forge has not been back in Dallas since he took over as the government liason for the federally-sponsored version of X-Factor, so the Aerie's current status is unknown.
