Paige: But, Mr. Logan, Kitty's got implanted demon ninja knowledge, and you've been practicing, like, forever? How will we ever learn to fight like that? It's practically impossible!

Logan: Yer kiddin', right? You think it takes lifetimes to get this good? Well, on that you're right. But that don't mean that you can't learn to fight, even with a few years' work. You won't be a master, but you'll know what works and how to apply it. All it takes is concentration and lots of practice.

Take Cyclops, for example. Most of his life just used his powers to blast through things. But a couple'a years back he lost control of the X-Men to Storm (who was powerless at the time) when she snatched his visor and he couldn't see.

Jubilee: No way!

Logan: Way. So he started training, so the next time he couldn't see, he wouldn't be helpless. Let's see what happened.

Cyclops vs. Street Punks - X-Men Unlimited #31

1) Cyclops' use of Aikido is apparent in this sequence. Attacked by a simple punch, Cyclops...

2) evades the blow with a sidestep and trip, while managing to use the snow to blind one attacker. Good use of the environment. Don't worry about "playing fair" when it's you or him. Use any advantage you can get.

3-4) He takes down an opponent with an Aikido-style Iriminage throw.

5-7) Using Tae Kwon Do and Wushu style high flying evasions, Cyclops positions himself perfectly...

8-9) for a wresting style throw that uses his opponent's momentum against him.

11-12) A classic side kick/reverse punch combo takes out another opponent.

13-15) Another aikido style evasion and trip.

16-18) Cyclops waits for his opponent's charge.

16) Perfect use of an Aikido-style Kaitenage throw fells the final opponent.

Pryde: Note Cyclops’s joint lock on the opponents thumb to attain a leverage advantage and control over his opponent’s movements. Note also the spin of Cyclops’ body in order to attain the proper torque and momentum required to complete this complicated throw.

Logan: I gotta hand it ta old “One-Eye,” he did himself proud in that one. Blind as a bat, no control over his powers, and he handled six guys barehanded. Not bad at all.

Pryde: You see, Paige, it doesn't take a lifetime to learn how to defend yourself. All it takes is practice and dedication. And someone to show you how.

Logan: Which brings us to the next part of the class… practical application. This is the part where you start wishin' you hadn't given me all that trouble. 'Cause now I get ta repay it… with interest. Startin' tomorrow, I expect ya all to be dressed fer fightin'… and fer a lot of fallin' down.

(With an evil grin) See ya tomorrow, kiddies… class dismissed.
