Fontanelle
Real Name: Gloria Dayne
Affiliation: None
Relatives: Amanda Mueller ("The Black Womb," mother)
Alternate-X Versions: None
Codename Etymology: Pronounced fŏn'tə-nĕl' [From Old French, fontanele: "fountain"]; A gap in the skull of an infant.
Powers: A telepath of fair to high power, Fontanelle does her best work
sifting through her subjects' dreams. Whether or not she is limited to that type
of telepathic connection is still unclear. She is employed by the New Son to sift
through the memories of people close to Gambit, mainly
to determine his true role in the Mutant Massacre,
and to help the New Son engage assassins to push Remy to use his powers to the
limit. She also warned Rogue that the Mengo Brothers
and Sekhmet Conoway, some of Remy's acquaintances, needed help in escaping the
Folding City in Latveria. Her motives are generally benign, although she takes
a bit of a "bad girl" attitude. She also has two Ph.D's, probably in psychology.
It was during her work for the New Son that Fontanelle found some precognitive
dreams in Remy's head, which showed her that he would travel to the past and encounter
her mother, Amanda Mueller, in 1891. In that era, her mother was saved by Sinister
after a horrible pregnancy, and apparently used by him in his experiments. Fontanelle
remembers her mother aging very slowly (which makes sense, as she would have been
in her eighties when Fontanelle was born). She then began to look for more clues
about hers and Remy's shared pasts, and planted subconscious hints in her "patients"
to help Remy if he needed it. As the New Son became more and more obsessed, and
started endangering Remy and others, Fontanelle objected and was "fired."
