| PRYDE OF THE X-MEN (1989)
The White Queen breaks Magneto out of an armored transport van. Meanwhile, Kitty Pryde pulls up to the mansion in a taxi. The professor has written her a letter telling her that he knows of her mutant ability and that he can help her. Kitty goes in and the prof explains about his school and how it's also home to the X-Men. She asks how he knew about all the things he wrote in the letter and he tells her how he uses Cerebro to find new mutants. Kitty's upset about being a mutant. The professor takes her to the control room of the Danger Room to watch the X-Men go through a training session. He points out each X-man and describes their powers. Kurt teleports into the control room to introduce himself, but he frightens Kitty and she backs away, accidentally phasing through the control systems and dropping into the Danger Room with the rest of the X-Men. Wolverine is upset when he finds out that "a kid" is joining the X-Men. An alarm goes off and the X-Men leave on a mission. Kitty and the professor are alone in the mansion, when Magneto and Juggernaut attack. Xavier reads Magneto's mind to find out that he wants Cerebro's "mutant power circuit". The prof gives the circuit to Kitty and tells her to protect it at all costs. Kitty phases out of the room, but Magneto goes after her. When she refuses to give the circuit to him he shocks her with some electrical wiring and takes it. He returns to Asteroid M, where he uses the circuit to change the course of the "Scorpio" comet, aiming it towards Earth. Toad chases Lockheed (who for some reason is hanging out on Asteroid M) down a corridor. When the X-Men return to the mansion they find Kitty and the Professor unconscious. Kurt wakes Kitty, but she screams at him to get away and shies away from him. Wolverine calls her a whiny kid and makes her mad. Dazzler steps between them. Professor uses his power to find out why Mags wanted the circuit, and the X-Men head out to Asteroid M. They tell Kitty to stay behind because she's not trained. Kitty hides in a locker and tags along anyway. The X-Men break into Asteroid M. Xavier tells Kitty that she can come out now. She tells him that she has to help and tells him to wish her luck. Then she runs off after the other X-Men. One by one they're tied up with fighting the Brotherhood, so that only Kurt is able to reach the control room and face Magneto. He's about to shoot Nightcrawler when Kitty suddenly phases into the room and grabs his arm. Lockheed comes to help and bites Mags, causing him to blow a hole in his machinery. Kitty tackles him head on, knocking him into more machinery and causing him to be shocked. Nightcrawler ports into the gap in the circuitry and is able to pull the comet off course and towards the Asteroid. Magneto tells Kitty that the X-Men might have stopped him from destroying earth, but that Nightcrawler has to stay to complete the circuit, and will be destroyed along with the Asteroid. Mags then leaves. Kitty doesn't want to leave Kurt behind, but the Xavier tells her to return to the X-Men's ship, that he has a plan. Nightcrawler is to 'port at the last second to the Blackbird. He misses and the X-Men go after him, but he disappears and they think that he's burned up in the atmosphere. Kitty is upset that she had treated him so badly and is really upset that he's "died". Kurt pops out of a locker, a little singed, and Kitty tells him... "That was the bravest.. thing I've ever seen in my life." Note: There is also a comic book version of this episode, using cels from the original animation.
