Beast

Real Name: Henry "Hank" McCoy
Affiliation: United States Ambassador to the United Nations
Previous Affiliations: X-Men, United States Secretary of Mutant Affairs
Powers & History: Beast is covered from head to toe in blue fur, and possesses claws and fangs, which along with his strength and agility make him a formidable fighter. However, despite his brutish exterior, Beast is highly educated and quite erudite. Hank McCoy was apparently an early member of the X-Men, having been at Xavier's well before Wolverine's arrival, but after Storm's, and some pounds ago, as his old uniform indicates.

It is not clear whether Hank's blue fur was part of his original mutation, as in fact a news show just prior to the United Nations Summit at Ellis Island (X1) featured a commentary on mutants by a normal-looking "Dr. Henry J. McCoy," leading to the possibility that this Beast also experienced a second mutation. When this may have occurred and when he left the School are still unknown.

Just prior to the release of the Cure (X3), Hank was the Secretary of Mutant Affairs, and close with the new President. When the Cure was about to be announced he went to inform his old teammates about the situation while visiting Xavier's for Jean's funeral. Perhaps due to his outré appearance, he seemed to understand the possible needs of some mutants to live normally. Later, when he visited Jimmy (Leech) at Alcatraz, he was affected momentarily by the cure effect, and his longing for his human appearance was evident on his face. However, he only told Jimmy that he had a great gift.

Then, when Mystique was shot with a Cure weapon while Magneto was breaking her out of a mobile prison transport, Hank was angry at the President for not telling him about the weaponization of the drug. He returned to Xavier's just in time to discover that Jean had disintegrated the Professor and was now an ally of Magneto. Hank opined that perhaps the school should close, but when Angel arrived, Storm promised to maintain the sanctuary.

Having broken with the Cabinet, Hank donned his old uniform to help the X-Men oppose Magneto's expanded Brotherhood at Alcatraz and protect Leech from his forces. He and Wolverine handled most of the ground attack, while Storm battled Callisto and Kitty chased Juggernaut to find Leech. With most of the human troops incapacitated or out of ammo, Beast took three Cure darts and made a wide loop around Magneto. While Wolverine provided a distraction with a head-on attack, Beast leaped in from twenty feet away and stabbed Magneto with the Cure, ending a major part of the battle. Hank and Storm then led the survivors away from Alcatraz as Wolverine confronted the Phoenix.

After the battle, Hank reconciled with the President and was named the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, where he could serve as an example of the best in humans and mutants on a global stage.
