Powers: Channels solar flares into extreme strength, flight, and the ability to create and "shoot" fire

Background: Roberto da Costa was already a troubled teen, due to his own inferiority complex, when his mutancy emerged. Though he began feeling even more insecure due to his abilities, he began using his strength in order to give off the appearance of being better than he thought he was. Professor Xavier brought the young mutant into the X-Men, hoping to help him with his powers and his attitude. While Sunspot can tend to be rather cocky and hard to deal with, deep down he is a good kid, and really is trying to work with the rest of the New Mutants.

Roberto was one of the mutants that Beast chose to take along with him on his retreat to the Great Redwood Forest of California, along with Spyke, Shadowcat, Iceman, and Wolfsbane, all of whom were students with less-than-exceptional grades in their nature sciences class. When Beast was captured by Bigfoot trackers, the students helped to free him.

The next day, after running from the police, Berzerker led most of the New Mutants, including Sunspot, into the Morlock tunnels. They have since returned to the X-Men.
