Powers: Able to change the potential energy in objects to explosive kinetic energy. Most often uses a bo-staff and playing cards as weapons.
Background: In the "Day of Reckoning," Gambit was introduced to the X-Men/Brotherhood team-up as a member of Magneto's new team, having yet to be named, along with Colossus and Pyro, as well as Sabretooth and Quicksilver. During the fight, Gambit took the time to flirt with Rogue a bit, just before placing one of his charged cards in her hand, which she immediately threw away and saved herself. Though not specifically defeated, Gambit later fled with the other members of his team, seeming to know of the coming fight with the Sentinel.

Gambit seemed to be Magneto's speaking piece to the Brotherhood of Mutants. On at least two occassions, Gambit broke into the Brotherhood house to deliver a message to the group, one of which being to declare Quicksilver the new leader of the Brotherhood.

Later, Mesmero returned again, this time enslaving Rogue, and using her to absorb all of the powers of the X-Men and Brotherhood. During Scott and Jean's graduation ceremony, Magneto and his team arrived, ruining the ceremony, and allowing Magneto to tell them what Rogue had done. The two teams combined, and Xavier realized that he might know where Apocalypse's tomb was. With the help of Cerebro, Charles unlocked the memories he gained from Mesmero, and believed to have found that Apocalypse was entombed underneath Giza. However, when the combined Brotherhood/X-Men team arrived, they found out it was a trap, and fought there way through to an ancient room, where Beast translated the markings on the wall and found out that En Sabah Nur (Apocalypse) was the first mutant, and that an ancient pharoh had found a ship believed to be not of this Earth, though it had really been created in the future, and that Apocalypse had seized control of it in order to turn all the world's people into mutants. Using his own mind to control the ship, Xavier teleported them all to Apocalypse's real tomb in Tibet, where Gambit, Sabretooth, and Wolverine had tracked Mesmero, Rogue, and Mystique to already. However, the team arrived too late to stop Apocalypse from drawing all of their powers from Rogue, and becoming powerful enough to live up to his name.

Shortly afterwards, Gambit abducted Rogue in an alley and brought her down to Louisiana, where he convinced her to help him rescue his own foster-father Jean-Luc. Rogue somewhat reluctantly agreed, and the pair fought off the Rippers Guild, Gambit's family's nemeses. Eventually the X-Men were able to track Rogue down and assisted in finishing off the Rippers' base. Though Gambit wanted Rogue to stay with him, she returned to Bayville, but not before Gambit gave her a lucky card.

When Apocalypse finally rose, Gambit, along with the rest of the Acolytes, stood with the X-Men to fight him and his Horsemen, among them Magneto. Visions of the future experienced afterwards by Professor X show that Gambit may eventually join the X-Men
