"Joyride"

Short Summary by jaluzion:
Synopsis:

Lance enters the Mansion's gates, using his powers to disrupt the security devices. The young team awakes & rushes outside to investigate. They find Lance who announces he wants to join the X-Men. Lance is given a chance by Professor X and Kitty shows him a room. Scott is suspect of Lance's motives, but Xavier explains Lance wants to be closer to Kitty - and that's a start.

The 'new recruits' are shown doing their training exercises with Lance participating - with some level of success, but not really. He does 'save' Kitty from a pool/drowning exercise, but he was supposed to save Rogue.

Lance comments snidely to Scott about his car, as he and the new recruits are climbing into the jeep. We then see Scott's car trashed and assume it was Lance. In the middle of the night, Bobby, etc climb into the X-Van for a joyride. They decide to check out the X-features, but are disappointed when they don't see the results. So they start pressing every button/lever available, still not seeing the results. (The results being missiles being launched at items behind the X-Van...)

Logan calls an early am session & introduces the next piece of equipment to the recruits: the X-Van. Only he finds it totally trashed. MultipleKid wants to speak up & say it was them, but is elbowed not to. The audience is then treated to the prerequisite collapse of the vehicle & the cliche` hubcap rolling off & landing at Logan's feet. Scott again assumes it's Lance.

Lance gets a hard time from the Brotherhood members at school and is finding it difficult at the Mansion also.

Again the young ones decide to go on a joyride & invite Lance alone. He declines, but Bobby states they're going to take something bigger & more powerful this time. Lance realizes Bobby's referring to the Xjet (of which Bobby failed miserably in the Xjet simulator earlier), and wakes Kitty for help to stop them.

After much ado (read technical difficulties & having to outrun military fighter jets), Kitty & Lance save the day.

Next morning, the Xteam is shown the Xjet by Logan. But, of course, it's a total mess. Scott immediately accused Lance, who takes on the blame in typical alpha-male behavior. Bobby speaks up and tells the truth, that it was he & the others that did it. Kitty adds that Lance was only trying to stop them. The kids also admit that it was them who took the Xvan, Scott's car, and even Wolverine's motorcycle.

Prof X takes Kurt off "probation" (Kurt's been washing & waxing all the equipment thru'out the ep. since his foray with Tabitha.) and puts the others "on." Scott apologizes to Lance, but Lance announces he's leaving - saying it's a 'piece of cake' being in the Brotherhood and it's too much work being an Xmen. Xavier gives him the option to come back if he changes his mind. Kitty even asks him to stay. As Lance is about to leave, Kitty walks over to him & gives him a kiss. Lance is all smiles as he rubs his cheek.

Review I liked it. Was good to see the young'uns getting some airtime. Liked the development of Lance & Kitty as a couple. One thing that caught my eye; as the team is walking into the hangar of the Xjet, the artists clearly drew Wolverine shorter than Cyclops. Loved Wolverine's response when told they also took his motorcycle for a joyride.
