Boom Boom

Full Name: Tabitha Smith
Affiliation: X-Men (New Mutants junior class)
Previous Affiliations: Brotherhood (non-active)
Origin: USA
Known Relatives: Mr. Smith (first name not given), unnamed Mother
Powers: Creates small cherry-bomb like spheres of energy which explode in a loud boom
Background: Tabitha Smith was the wildest of the New Mutants, generally not caring about the consequences of her actions. It wasn't that she didn't like the others, it was just that she was too busy having fun to care what happened. This happy-go-lucky nature landed her and Nightcrawler in a lot of trouble when she (and they he) began horsing around during a Danger Room session. They were grounded and confined to the Mansion after school, but Tab convinced Kurt to teleport them to the school fair anyway.

Unfortunately, Tab's thief of a father had arrived at Bayville High to recruit her for a new heist he was planning: the robbery of the funds raised by the fair to build Bayville's new football field, which had been wrecked by the Brotherhood. Boom Boom was reluctant to help him, but he wound up talking her into it, even though her mother (who apparently had left her father) had forbid him to see her. Tab basically agreed to one last caper so her dad would leave her alone forever. However, the robbery, is interrupted by the Brotherhood and the X-Men and in chasing the money, Mr. Smith fell through the gymnasium roof. Boom Boom tried to save him, but he reached for the money instead of her hand, forcing Nightcrawler to save them both. Mr. Smith then knocked Kurt out, but by that time the police were there and Mr. Smith and Tabby were arrested.

Professor X got Tabitha released because she was coerced by her criminal dad, but Boom Boom left the X-Men anyway. She went to live in the ratty apartment shared by the Brotherhood, and promptly blew open the locked door to Mystique's palatial apartments, setting herself up in there. She never participated in any action with the Brotherhood "team" is still unknown, but did go to the Sadie Hawkins dance with them.

During this time, she banded together with Rogue, Magma, Shadowcat, and Jean Grey to form the crime-fighting Bayville Sirens, the ultimate expression of "girl-power." The five dressed in what could only be described as punk-gothic, and used their abilities to bring down a chop-shop/car theft ring. Immediately afterwards, the group disbanded under threat of arrest for vigilantism (a threat actually made by Mystique in disguise), but the incident has shown that mutants can use their powers for the good of humanity, rather than the destruction that Magneto dreams of.

Shortly thereafter, Mystique returned and after a brief confrontation, Boom Boom left the Brotherhood house, but not before blowing up Mystique's room with a well-placed time bomb. After this, Boom-Boom returned to the X-Men, saving Magma from the Mansion's weapons system, and alerting Cyclops to the strange behavior of the Mansion. They narrowly saved the New Mutants, getting them into a safe bunker just as the Mansion self-destructed.

The next day, after running from the police, Berzerker led most of the New Mutants, except for Iceman, into the Morlock tunnels. They soon returned to the X-Men.

Later in the year, Storm decided that the X-Men could use a break, and took most of them on a cruise. During the cruise, after having been outted as mutants, Scott, Jean, Kurt, Kitty, Bobby, Tabitha, and Amara all hopped ship and went to a small, volcanic island, where the habitants actually liked the mutants, rather than feared them. While there, Amara accidently tapped deeper into her powers than she knew she could, and activated the volcano. She was later able to use her powers to shut the volcano off, and the group returned to the ship to face a reprimand from Storm.
