Apocalypse

Real Name: En Sabah Nur
Affiliation: None
Origin: Akkaba, Egypt
Powers:
Background: Thousands of years ago, a pharoh found a ship that he believed to be not of this world. He used it to control the people of Egypt, making them think he was descended from their Gods. At the same time, a young infant was born, with grey skin. He was abandoned by his family, and adopted by a man in a nomadic tribe who named the boy En Sabah Nur, meaning "the Great Light." As the boy grew up, it soon became obvious that no one could beat him in battle. He was faster, stronger, and more intelligent than any other man in the tribe. The pharoh heard of the boy, and felt he was a threat to his reign. He sent his soldiers to take the boy down, however the tribe fought back, easily beating the soldiers. However, there was at least one fatality within the tribe, being Nur's adopted father. Nur became enraged at his father's death, and donned the name Apocalypse as no one could survive his fury. In a fierce battle, he destroyed the pharoh, and took his throne, as well as the ship. Apocalypse intended to use the ship to turn every human on the planet into a mutant, however his followers betrayed him, and captured him. They buried the ship underneath the future site of the Great Pyramids of Giza, and entombed Apocalypse in a mountain in Tibet, sealing him behind three doors.

However, though Apocalypse was entombed, he was not without the ability to speak to others outside. Thousands of years later, he gained the talents of a powerful telepath, called Mesmero, and used him to unlock the three doors. As the third door was opened by Mystique, Rogue approached Apocalypse's tomb, prepared to give him the powers of the X-Men and Brotherhood. Outside the tomb, Sabretooth was able to knock Mesmero out, and Rogue reawakened just before Apocalypse began absorbing the powers. He then levitated himself out of his tomb, just as Wolverine entered the room to protect Rogue. He lunged at Apocalypse, but Apocalypse brought him to the ground simply with his mind. Xavier, Magneto, and the combined Brotherhood/X-Men team arrived in the ancient ship, which Beast had discovered was really from Earth's future, and were just as easily defeated as Wolverine had been. Apocalypse entered the ship, and vanished.

Soon after Apocalypse's resurrection, Apocalypse's vessel rematerialized atop a pyramid in Mexico. Apocalypse used his considerable power to create an impenatrable force-field around the pyramid, prevent anyone from accessing the pyramid, or even seeing inside. The Mexican authorities set up around the pyramid, and reluctantly called the X-Men in for support. The tried without success to passively penetrate the field, until Magneto arrived. He used all of his power to slam the military vehicles into the field, all of which bounced off not even scratching the field. Apocalypse emerged, using Magneto's own powers against him, and then somehow apparently destroyed Magneto with his own power. Xavier watched as his old friend was snuffed out of existence, and saw the pure raw power contained within En Saba Nur.

A few weeks later, Apocalypse finally emerged from his ship, as a total of four domes now covered pyramids around the globe. He was visibly changed, appearing to be more of an armored cyborg than an ancient Pharaoh. The threat of his power was undeniable, and the X-Men confronted him. However, Apocalypse's energy beams appeared to disintegrate Professor X and Storm, who were leading the attack on the mental and physical planes. S.H.I.E.L.D. then sent new Sentinels to stop him. Apocalypse defeated the Sentinels fairly quickly, using his new Horsemen: Magneto, Mystique, Storm and Xavier!!!

The X-Men regrouped after recruiting some of the Acolytes, Brotherhood and other mutants and sent a team to each pyramid to battle the Horseman protecting it. Meanwhile, Apocalypse proceeded with his master plan, which was to use the Eye of Ages to unleash a mutating wave across the globe, transforming all humans into mutants. He was defeated, however, when Rogue used Leech's powers to absorb Apocalypse's own abilites, making it impossible for him to power the machinery, as he was using his own DNA as a template for the mutation. Rogue then sealed Apocalypse into the Eye of Ages and powered it on, right before Wolverine re-trashed the controls. Apocalypse's ship then warped to another (unknown) time and place.
