Author's Comments:

This story is essentially about the X-men, in the good old days when Claremont was still at the helm. I chose this particular time period for that simple reason. It was basically an uncomplicated era...

This story is actually the result of a round robin story that began about 7 years ago when the fledgling fan club was just beginning. Originally, myself and several other authors in the club had started a story about Gambit that took place in Europe. Remy LeBeau was in Paris, etc, etc. During this debacle, a young Gambit was joined by a junior sorceress and her friend, Clayton. Both were students abroad at a private school. Their short adventure soon ended. Hopefully, if Power Play is well received, this adventure may live again. But I digress...

That was 4 years ago (in Marvel Time). Young Clayton has grown up and gone off to college in Pittsburgh. It's been a long time since he's used his powers, but recent events have struck a little close too home. Forcing him to reconsider some of the vows he'd made at the age of 15. Of course, using his powers again attracts the attention of several pairs of eyes he'd wanted to avoid.

Namely, the X-Men.

The story centers around the young man that grudgingly decides to join the mutant team and slowly acclimates to their life style. It's certainly an adjustment for anyone, but at long last, Clayton "Tres" Darkmoon finds himself surrounded by true peers - friends that he can actually talk to about anything, something he's lacked for a long, long time. And while living life as an 'X' appears on the surface to be interesting, adventurous, and at times even fun, it's certainly not a picnic. There are finals to take, parents to placate, Danger Rooms sessions to endure, and of course combat-ready spandex. Life's not ideal, but at least he feels alive once more.

However, as with every member that wears the fabled 'X' insignia, tension mounts, and catastrophe is soon to follow. Lives are endangered, the world is threatened. But that's all part of a day's work...right?

I'll be keeping to continuity as well as maintaining speech patterns and mannerisms, and basic character identities as it was way back then.

Thanks for considering my story

Great story. X-Men action as it ought to be. This story is very well written with a terrific new X-charater. Great first person narative. Can't wait for the rest of the story.
