Author's Comments:

A few years ago, a friend of mine (also a comic fan) and I started asking the following question: What would happen if Kitty Pryde somehow ended up in the Star Trek universe, circa the 24th century of Star Trek: The Next Generation?

The story you are about to read is the beginning of the answer to that question. I decided not to send her to the future through time travel. The time travel thing has been done to death. In the past year or so there have been several "official" books put out by both Pocket and Marvel which had Captain Picard and his crew travel back in time to fight along side the X-Men, and then continued the story with the X-Men traveling to the future to fight side-by-side with the Enterprise D/E crew. These stories were okay, if not great, but I found the "convenience" of time travel to be hokey at best and a total cop-out at worst.

I decided to have Kitty live extremely long... long enough to join the ST:TNG era. The question, of course, is how to make that happen. The story that David S. (whom you all know as CharleyX) has graciously agreed to let me post will answer that question.

A little background: This story takes place approximately 12 years in the future (the year 2012). Kitty is now 30 years old (I assumed her age to be 18 now based on my own research (and David's) of the X-men and Excalibur books. If you disagree, tough. This is my story. Go write your own and post it to CharleyX's page.)

For about the last 20 years (in the story), geneticists around the world have been experimenting with artificially created life... genetic engineering of super humans. This was done in part so that governments would have a credible defense against the "mutant threat."

Approximately eight years ago one of these genetic "supermen", Khan Noonian Singhe began a revolt in India against the injustices perpetrated by normal humans against the "soulless freaks." In his defense, Khan was correct. Humans treated the genetically engineered mutates the same way that they had been treating mutants over the past several decades. In several countries around the world, the supermen were treated as slaves or cannon fodder for the armies, being given no rights in return for their (initially) loyal service. In the US, supermen were subject to the same laws under the Mutant Registration Act as naturally born mutants. And so, after a mob massacre of twelve supermen in India, Khan rose up and called all the supermen of India to join him in ridding themselves of their chains, to take up arms and overthrow the governments that would put superior beings in chains because of their own fears. He argued that his supermen were genetically, physically and psychologically superior to normal humans. He felt that his people should be the masters, and humans the slaves.

Soon, all of the supermen of India flocked to him and an army began to form. His initial success in guerilla warfare brought more supermen from around the world to follow his ways. Soon there was a world-wide network of supermen terrorist cells which began overthrowing the smaller governments of the world.

One would think that mutants and supermen would be natural allies. But when the supermen of the USA went so far as to bomb Avengers headquarters in 2007 as the first strike against the American Government, the death of the Scarlet Witch turned most mutants away from Khan's cause, especially her father Magneto and his Genoshan mutants.

Nevertheless, despite the loss of a strong potential ally, Khan's armies continued to gain ground. Soon even the larger, more powerful governments of the world were falling before Khan's might and bold tactics. The US government fell in May, 2009 and Khan took his seat of power in the Oval Office.

Despite its terrible losses (including nearly 12 million dead world-wide from Khan's large-scale terrorist tactics), humanity refused to go quietly into bondage. The "Super Heroes" of the world knew that they could not fight so powerful a foe on their own. And so, on July 4, 2009, Captain America broadcast a pirate message over the airwaves, calling all right thinking people to take up arms to fight for their Liberty. His efforts started the Liberty Army, a guerilla army made up of humans mutants, and super humans which fight to free all men from Khan's influence. The war which ensued would eventually be known as the "Eugenics War."

Kitty Pryde, A.K.A. Shadowcat, is a Lieutenant in the LA. She has spent the past three years as a company commander and platoon leader in 2nd Army, 3rd Division, of the East Coast Liberty Army. She fights along-side old friends and some new ones.

By the way, there may be some continuity errors. Sorry, but I like my version better. Also, I have not read any accounts of Paramount/Pocket Books version of the Eugenics Wars. It probably differs from my version. Again, sorry, but I like my version better (even if I haven't read the other version yet).

Truth be told: I may like the 'official' version better. It's probably better thought out than mine and probably more error-free. Trekers tend to be nitpickers about continuity and such. Nevertheless, I am a working man trying to support a family. Writing fan-fic is a hobby, not a job and I don't get paid for it. Consequently, I don't have time to do more through investigation than I have. So, please, go easy on the nit-picking.

Last, but not least, my disclaimer. Many of the characters of this story were created by and are owned by Marvel Comics and Paramount Productions. I do not have permission to use these characters for commercial purposes. They are being used for fan-fic purposes only. I am not being paid for these stories. If you wish to download the stories for personal use, be my guest. If you want to do it for commercial use, get permission from Marvel, Paramount, and CharleyX, and we'll talk.

The story will be posted chapter-by-chapter as I complete them. There is no set timetable, and I may find myself to busy to write for extended periods of time. I hope that it won't happen, but it may.

For now, enjoy.
