Title Page Part of the Days of Future Past timeline
2015: Tangerine relates to Excalibur and the R.C.X. what she sees in here mind's eye. Camelot, last refuge of Britain's superpowered, was attacked by Omega-class Sentinels. The most powerful defenders fell so easily, and when the nearly-invulnerable Death's Head died, all hope was lost. The robots advanced without pause or mercy, killing all who opposed them, until finally they reached the shelter and took those hiding there prisoner. Tangerine can't believe they imagined that in defeating Ahab (last issue) they had won something of import, when all their friends were dying at the same time. Tangerine stops, unable to handle any more. The two teams stand among the dead, futilely searching for survivors. Kurt notes that the Sentinels have probably tracked them, so they should keep moving. Killpower lashes out at him, and is deftly subdued by cap. They break, and the two teams introduce themselves. Arthur removes his helmet to reveal Nigel Orpington-Smythe. He berates himself at his arrogance, for thinking they were safe here, and for not anticipating this attack. Cap marvels at the close paralleling between this world and their own, but Kitty says they must find Rachel. To do so might seem foolish, says Kurt, but he believes they can use the Sentinels' one weakness, the fact that they were created as humanoids and programmed with failsafes by their human masters, to succeed. He intends to use one of the damaged robots as a Trojan Horse. New York: When the Sentinels began to cross the Atlantic in 2013, Europe responded with a nuclear strike. It killed the humans, but the Sentinels survived, and the Hierarchy now pursues its dead masters' dream of genetic purity. Inside the Hive, a Sentinel reports to the Hierarchy, which notes that Ahab's arms are being replaced, Omegas have been dispatched to deal with Excalibur, Phoenix and Widget are in custody, and Nimrod production will peak in under six months, by which time they must identify all timelines with mutants. It orders its drones to concentrate on Widget, as Rachel's defenses are too strong. Rachel berates herself for being captured, and realizes she can't bust out, because her containment chamber will increase strength in response to her resistance. Instead, she uses a deeply-buried bond to mindlink with Kate's mind, inside Widget. She gets swept up in the digital consciousness, but adjusts in short order. Kate's glad to see her, and explains that the Sentinel that was monitoring her evolved to survive the time warp and absorbed her and lots of other things. She informs Rachel of the Sentinels' plan to move to other timelines, which they must stop. Excalibur's wounded Sentinel flies across the Atlantic, holding Killpower, Dark Angel and Grace in a containment bubble. Inside the hollowed-out robot, Cerise uses her power to animate the Sentinels and keep it flying. Brian tells Meggan he loves her, regardless of what they look like to each other. Kitty shows up with a giant gun and a Terminator outfit, noting that those of them without super-strength or heavy energy powers will need weapons with which to fight. Soon enough, a flight of Sentinels comes to intercept Excalibur's Trojan Horse. They question the robot, and Kylun uses his vocal mimicry power to rearrange bits of their questions into broken answers, making the patrol think the Sentinel is malfunctioning, so they direct it to the Hive. Inside, Rachel taps into her containment field, drainiong its power so she can escape. She blasts the drones, then frees Widget, who teleports them to the Hierarchy. She feigns a struggle as she forces a mindlink with the Hierarchy's brain. Meanwhile, all the Sentinels respond to their master's alarms. Tangerine reads what's happening, and Kitty phases the "captive" heroes back inside the Sentinel. Cerise has the robot smash its escorts, then fly directly to Rachel, who's working on the Hierarchy. Just as the Sentinels come up behind her, Excalibur's robot crashes through the wall, the heroes phasing out as Killpower detonates a grenade on the other Sentinels. Rachel broadcasts that they can't destroy the Hierarchy, because the Sentinels would just evolve another. They must cover her as she reprograms it. Luckily, the drones won't use energy weapons for fear of damaging the Hierarchy, so the heroes have a chace as they pull out their guns and open fire. Rachel breaks through the last shield, and Kate easily understands the Hierarchy's brain. The heroes fight valiantly, but there are just too many Sentinels. Brian pushes Meggan out of the way of one robot's claw blades, but can't get out of the way himself. Suddenly everything stops. Brian is saved, as Rachel reveals that she and Kate reprogrammed the Sentinels to protect all life. Ahab, watching from the shadow, freaks, and throws his harpoon at Rachel. However, a Sentinel snatches it out of the air, repeating its directive to preserve all life. Ray chases Ahab out. The RC.X. is overjoyed, but realize there's still a lot to be done to truly bring peace to the world. Arthur invites Rachel to stay, but she demurs, saying she's got her own family, as Excalibur shares in a group hug.
